Hello

Maryland is celebrating Economic Development week and Frederick has joined our partners across the state to celebrate businesses, jobs, and economic development.

Numerous studies have shown that after family and relationships, most people around the globe value financial security. In most instances this means a job that provides family supporting wages and benefits. We are fortunate that Frederick is a job leader in Maryland and has approximately 1.8 jobs per household right here in the City. From biotech to banking Frederick is full of top job opportunities for our residents with more on the way as businesses expand and new ones open. Businesses want to invest where workforce is located and in turn workforce wants to live in places like Frederick with a high quality of life.

Recently, Frederick has hosted a multitude of cultural, art, and music festivals, bike races, fairs, tech games, and more.  These events coupled with top educational offerings and diversity of housing options including affordable workforce housing, is driving Frederick’s stock higher as a workforce leader.  My team at the Department of Economic Development works hard every day to deliver assistance, tools, and solutions for Frederick workforce, businesses and startups including an increasing number owned by under-represented segments of our population – minority and women owned businesses. This issue of eNews celebrates decades of work by our team along with stories on grants, programs, and programs. Enjoy.

Best,
Richard G. Griffin, AICP, CEcD

Here, we asked our team to reflect on their experiences and share some insight from working behind-the-scenes of Frederick’s business community over the years.
