Remodeled K-3 Program Area Unveiled at Jerry Gamble Club

On September 6, we unveiled the newly remodeled K-3 Program Area at the Jerry Gamble Club, sponsored by the Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club. What was once a dull, uninviting space is now bright, welcoming, and full of books and literacy-focused activities! We celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, plenty of food, and a reading by first grader Braylen.
Dove SMART Girls Event Educates & Empowers

Boys & Girls Clubs of America partnered with Dove to host a girls' self-esteem workshop at our Al Lenzmeier West Side Club! Girls from all eight of our Twin Cities Clubs came together on September 16 for a night full of activities focused on education and empowerment: discussion circles, dance lessons, and Treat Yourself stations like create-your-own face masks and lip balm, nail painting, and a photo booth.
Eat Wings & Show Your Support for the Boys & Girls Clubs!

In the spirit of teamwork and recognizing the importance of kids being active, Boys & Girls Club of America partnered with Buffalo Wild Wings in 2013 to form ALL STARS sports leagues, which are designed to expose kids to the benefits of participating in team sports and belonging to a team. As a result of this partnership, Club youth participating in sports drastically increased from 12,000 in 2013 to more than 170,000 in 2017. To date, ALL STARS sports leagues have connected more than 350,000 youth nationwide to athletic programming that in turn has prepared them for success. Visit your local B-Dubs October 1–31 to give more youth access to team sports.   By adding just $1, $3, or $5 to your check, you’ll help us get more equipment, more coaching, and more sports teams for our ALL STAR kids.
PROGRAMMING UPDATE
The first month of fall programming has been spent getting to know our Club Kids, identifying their strengths, and building relationships. All K-6 graders are being tested in reading, while all 4-6 graders are being tested in math. This is the first year that reading assessments have been extended to include 4-6 graders. The results of these assessments will allow us to provide each and every Club Kid with the individualized programming they need to succeed this school year!
