As October blows in (hard!), we are busy with various programs we have done in the past and new programs that will shape our League for the future.
The Membership Committee is meeting to ensure that new members are welcomed and then want to continue their membership beyond one year. We are scheduling a focus group to gather more ideas on how to engage more members in future leadership roles. All this while continuing our role in community education on various issues and registering voters. But remember, many hands make light work. Your willingness to help, in whatever way you can, is vital. When a call goes out, please answer it.

Deputy Registrar Training
|
One of the League's most important missions is to educate and register voters. To accomplish the later, one must be a Deputy Registrar. The training only takes about an hour. Anyone who is a registered voter can go through the training. Our League is sponsoring a Deputy Registrar training session on Monday, October 26, from 6:30-7:30pm, in the large Township room at 130 S. Oak Park Ave, Oak Park. All you have to do is send your name and address to peggykell22@gmail.com ASAP. The list of attendees must be submitted to the Cook County Clerk's Office by Thursday, October 22, so they can verify your voter registration.
The training is easy for such an important League job, registering voters. Then you can register your neighbors, relatives, community members......the possibilities are endless! Don't you think every Leaguer should be a Deputy Registrar???

The LWV of Cook County is starting a pilot Observer Corp for this fall. In addition to observing all Cook County Board meetings, they would like to get volunteers to observe the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District meetings downtown. These meetings are held the first and third Thursday of the month at 10:00am, 111 E. Erie Street, Chicago. A few volunteers are still needed. If you are interested, check out the Meeting Calendar. Membership Committee Meeting
|
At the September Membership Committee meeting, members joined chairs Marilyn Cantisano and
Donald
Ellek in developing some steps to welcome new members and then get them engaged in our League. A packet of information, an assigned buddy or mentor, and informal new member gatherings every few months are just a few of the ideas discussed. If you couldn't make the first meeting, you can still join the committee for their next meeting, Tuesday, October 27, at 7:00pm at Marilyn Cantisano's house. Please contact the chairs for more information. Marilyn
