City Plants First 100 Orchid Plants at Stunson Nature Trail

The City of Oakland Park has partnered with several organizations to plant an array of native orchid seedlings along the Stunson Nature Trail adjacent to Royal Palm Park.

Oakland Park’s "Parade of Orchids" is part of the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s “The Million Orchid Project” to reintroduce millions of native orchids to South Florida’s urban landscapes. South Florida’s native orchids currently exist in such small numbers that they have little hope of recovering without programs such as this.

The public can participate by adopting one or more orchids in the name of a person or organization they wish to recognize. Fireworks Prohibited in Oakland Park

Oakland Park City Code Sec. 6-65. - Article III Fireworks : Storage, sale and use of fireworks is prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to store, offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail or use or explode any fireworks.

More than ever during this coronavirus pandemic, we wish everyone a safe and healthy 4th of July Holiday weekend.

With the record number of new coronavirus cases across Florida, Oakland Parks residents and businesses are reminded to continue to comply with Broward County Emergency Orders for facial coverings, social distancing, sanitization, and other requirements to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Please remain vigilant and follow CDC guidelines – especially over the Holiday weekend:

Wear a mask or face covering to protect yourself and others
Maintain six feet of social distancing when in public

Mosquito season is expected to be very busy again this year. With the arrival of summer rains, please be sure to remove all standing water and containers that can hold water whenever possible. Eliminating mosquito breeding habitats can go a long way to reduce the mosquito population.

Broward County Mosquito Control conducts aerial and ground spraying that target neighborhoods where high populations of the insects have been reported.
