ORHS Community Member,

Thank you to all of our parents & guardians that invested the time to answer our annual parent survey which closed on April 1. Once we receive the combined results, we will use those to help shape our school improvement plan. Your help was greatly appreciated.

I also want to thank all of our freshmen and sophomores that put forth their best efforts into the FSA Writing assessment yesterday. The writing test really kicked off our 2022 testing season and we are looking forward to seeing some fine results once their graded exams are returned!

While we have many events on the schedule in the coming days, I want to remind our families about next Thursday in particular. On April 14 we are holding our monthly School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting which is open to all community members. On this same evening we are conducting a FAFSA Night (Free Application for Federal Student Aid - FAFSA). The FAFSA is very important to any graduating ORHS senior with college plans. Each year in Florida millions of federal dollars are left on the table in various forms of college financial aid as this paperwork is not completed. Moreover, too many college students get saddled down with thousands of dollars in student loans that might have been avoided if they would simply complete this form each year. Therefore, if this applies to your or your student, please take advantage of this opportunity before it is too late.

As always, thank you for reading about some of our latest Pioneer success stories and have a wonderful weekend!

In Pioneer Pride,

Mr. Alvarado

FAFSA can help to avoid the piling on of too much debt to pay for college:
Source: Statista - Read full article
Note for our Pioneers: In 2020 the average amount of student loan debt was nearly $39,000 per person for those that borrowed the money. The risk in taking on too much debt to pay for college can come later when college graduates want to get married, buy a new car, qualify for a home mortgage, and more. We encourage all seniors with college plans to complete their FAFSA paperwork if they have yet to do so at next Thursday's FAFSA Night (please see above).

Continuing Reminder - After School Tutoring
School Advisory Council Meeting Thursday, April 14th
All are welcome!
Our School Advisory Council meetings are held at 5:30 PM, on the second Thursday of each month in the school’s Media Center.

Dates for the upcoming meetings are:
  • April 14 and May 12

The School Advisory Council supports the principal in developing the school’s budget as well as providing input on the annual School Improvement Plan.

We invite parents, students, faculty, staff and community members to join us and be a part of SAC.
Schoolwide Tardy Policy
All students who are late to class need to be marked tardy in Skyward. This includes students arriving to 1st period after 7:20am.

The discipline team will pull reports that calculate the repeated number of tardy infractions and apply consequences, where applicable.

We are no longer providing students late passes, please allow them into class, but it is critical that the teacher maintain accurate records in Skyward in order for the discipline team to be able to pull reports to assign consequences.
