ORC Athletes going Global!

It’s been a great year for ORC athletes! Congratulations to those who have competed or are competing in Global Regattas, World Championships and more! Check out some of the action below.

ORC Sr. Women’s Anne-Andrée Sirois at the Central American and Caribbean Games

Congratulations to ORC Senior rower, Anne-Andrée Sirois, who competed in the Central American and Caribbean Games, representing El Salvador! The regatta was held in the crater of an old volcano, Lake Ilopango, San Salvador from June 24th to 28th, where she earned a bronze medal on home soil in the women’s 4x!

Aidan Hembruff at World Rowing Cup & Participating at World

Congratulations to Aidan Hembruff, who competed in the World Rowing Cup representing Canada’s men’s four, earning 4th place in the B Finals and 10th overall. Aidan will also be competing in the Canadian men’s four at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, taking place from July 19th to 23rd.

Rachel Weber to Participate at World Rowing U23

Good luck to Rachel Weber, who will be competing in the World Rowing U23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from July 19th to July 23rd, representing Canada in the women’s pair.

ORC Alumni Josh King at Royal Henley &World Rowing Cup

Congratulations to ORC Alumni Josh King for competing at the Royal Henley, representing Maple Bay Rowing Club's Men's 8+! They earned 2nd place in the Grand Challenge Cup. Josh also competed at the World Rowing Cup with the men’s eight. Placing 6th in the A Final.

Ontario Adventure Rowing Association

Did you know that the Ottawa Rowing Club is a member of the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association (OAR)? The OAR organizes rowing tours mainly in Ontario and across the country as well! One local event coming up at the end of August is the Canadian Sculling Marathon which starts at ONEC. Check out some of the action and learn more in their July newsletter!

FREE Lifesaving Workshop! Coast2Coast First Aid & Aquatics

Coast2Coast First Aid & Aquatics is hosting a FREE Lifesaving Workshop, “Train The Next Hero,” taking place August 19th in Toronto! This all ages workshop is about raising awareness about the importance of knowing First Aid and CPR.

Henley Send Off 2023 - August 1st 2023

The Henley Send Off is taking place Tuesday, August 1st 2023. We are thrilled to be welcoming a band that will be playing LIVE MUSIC! Stay tuned for more details and information!

ORC at Capital Pride

ORC will be hosting a table at the Capital Pride Street Festival on Bank Street Aug 26th and 27th to introduce Pride goers to rowing and the programs at ORC. This will be from 9-5 each day.

We will need volunteers, ideally from all programs to help us show off the best of ORC and our sport!

ORC's Drag Race

ORC is hosting “ORC’s Drag Race” on August 24th at 7pm. We will be joined by several local drag performers for a relay race on ergs and drag show! Tickets will be ten dollars with ticket sales going towards supporting LGBTQ2+ athletes in sport! Stay tuned for more details.

We will be looking for athlete volunteers for the relay teams and other volunteers as well, including those with smart serve. Please contact Brendan Edge, athlete.representative@ottawarowingclub.com if you are interested in volunteering.
