- OUTREACH
Prayer Update December 2014
-
- Our church planters depend
on the prayers and encouragement of God's people. OUTREACH NORTH
AMERICA provides this monthly prayer letter to inform you of some of
their specific needs and praises so you will know better how to pray
for them. Thank you for your prayers and the
interest you show by your phone and e-mail responses. Your prayers
truly encourage your church planters. (See the bottom of this
e-mail for a summary of all the mission churches included in this
update.)
-
- In general
- Pray for ARP mission
congregations as they have special outreach events and services
during the Christmas season.
- Pray that God will use
ARP mission congregations to make disciples for Christ.
- If you would like to
support individual missions, you can donate to them on the ONA
website http://www.outreachnorthamerica.org/donate-individual-missions/.

- In August of this year,
City Church began renting a beautiful, historic venue in our target
area. Not only is the space a beautiful neighborhood landmark, very
well known by people all over Asheville, but the property manager
has gone out of his way to host us, even providing the space at an
incredibly discounted rental rate ($60 per Sunday when market price
is around $1,700 a month!). When we moved locations, we also began
meeting in the mornings, rather than the afternoons. (Our previous
location was only available in the afternoons.) With the change in
location and time, we've experienced a period of rapid growth -
doubling, then tripling in a matter of weeks. This exciting time has
brought refreshment to City Church. By no means have we 'arrived,'
but we're encouraged by the visible and tangible signs of the Lord
at work among us.
- Currently, we're working
on solidifying ministry teams to advance the work of ministry,
expanding our community groups (called City Groups), scheduling
"Discover City Church" classes (our new members'/inquirers' class),
and implementing a children's curriculum. While there's always work
to be done, especially towards financial self-sufficiency, we're
thankful, hopeful, and joyful about what the Lord has done and is
doing. Our core team and regular attenders are excited about the
future of the church, and we know our supporters across Presbytery
and the denomination are as well. Thank you for your continued
support and prayers.

Praise
- We're delighted to
announce the birth of Abigail Laura Anne Rennie born on Tuesday,
November 18 at 8:03 a.m. weighing 8 1/2 lbs. Mum and baby are both
doing well.
- We're so thankful to God
for the great blessing of baby Abigail and for all that he continues
to do in and through the life of Grace Church Leith.
- Thank you for your
continued prayers for the work here. The past few months have
been very encouraging with a number of new people plugging into the
church and a number of meaningful gospel conversations taking place
with new and existing contacts.
- Shortly before Abigail
was born, the women in the church held one of their 'Baby, Prayer
and Cake' nights for Rosalynd. Four of Rosalynd's non-Christian
contacts took up the invitation to this prayer meeting and spoke of
how much they enjoyed it!
- Over the next few weeks,
we will have a number of opportunities to connect with new people in
Leith in the lead up to Christmas.
- Pray
- For the Grace Church
Leith Christmas Toddler Morning – Friday, December 5, 10:00
a.m.
- For the Carols in the
Pub – Friday, December 12, 7:30 p.m.
- For the Candlelit Carol
Service – Sunday, December 14, 4:00 p.m.
- These events will be
circulated widely so please pray that people would come and that
God's Spirit would open hearts to hear the gospel.
- P.S. Some of our
musicians recently got together and recorded a couple of songs that
we sing on Sundays. If you'd like to hear what they've been up to,
click on the following link for their version of 'By thy Mercy': http://www.gracechurchleith.org/media.php?pageID=5
- The musicians will be
very busy over the next month and I know they'd greatly appreciate
your prayers.

- Praises
- God is bringing and
growing leaders who both are, and will, make a difference in the
Kingdom.
- We are seeing BIG life
change as a result of the gospel being planted in lives. We have
seen a woman who has struggle with same-sex attraction for over 40
years fall in love with Jesus. We have also seen several people move
forward in their obedience/love for Jesus!
- God is faithful! We
continue to be in awe of the way He provides!
- Requests
- We are currently looking
for a worship leader. We want to find the right person who can help
bring together this part of our Sunday worship.
- We are moving deeper in
implementing discipleship as the core of what we do at Renew. I am
convinced discipleship is our mission. We are moving some people
forward in the discipling process and will begin a new generation of
disciple-makers in January. Pray for this process to take hold and
multiply.
- We are beginning a kid’s
Bible Club at Horizons (government housing project) in December. We
want to see the gospel change lives, where we have been sowing love
and care for over 2 years.

out and then been discovered. They are also concern for families
back home with increasing violence.

- Praise
- Our folks filled 49
Shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse project!
- For an unusual outreach
effort, which brought together friends, family and our church folks
at our Wednesday night Bible study-- supposedly. It was a
REAL surprise 80th birthday party for Ann planned by our
daughter. Many there have nothing to do with church and it
provided a wonderful opportunity to show forth the love and joy of
the Lord.
- Pray
- In December all the
staff of Alliance Defending Freedom are meeting for a 2-day
conference in Phoenix. We shall be on a panel with the lawyer
representing "Reed vs. City of Gilbert" on the First Amendment
issues with their church sign ordinance. The Supreme Court is
expected to hear our case in January. This could have national
implications for church signage.
- Our lawyer has submitted
our letter to the Home Owners Assosiation in which we give to
them our terms concerning the property. We are to hear back from
them by Dec 1. Please pray for a settlement out of court.
