Note from our Pastor

Father Steve Sallot

Dear Parents of Our Lady Queen of Angels students,

Something seismic happened last week. Suddenly it is a lot quieter around the parish school and the parish campus. Our students are on summer break and of course, that means you are busy 24/7! I hope you get some down time with your kids, and they get to spend quality time with you.

I am sure you are aware by now of the recent change in our school administration. Dr. Ramon Morales, who was with us this past year, is not returning in September. With good consultation, I have chosen Dr. Laura Ismerio to be our Interim Principal for the coming school year. While this is a new position for her here at Queen of Angels, she is certainly well positioned to take on this role. As Dr. Ismerio has been an integral part of our school as Assistant Principal for the past 6 years, she is extremely familiar with our great school. Her focus as Assistant Principal has been in the areas of curriculum, instruction, learning support and professional development.

As Assistant Principal, Dr. Ismerio received her Doctor of Education with an emphasis in interdisciplinary leadership from Creighton University. I admire her for her desire to keep learning and developing her skills as an educator. I believe her desire for continuous learning is something which can benefit all of us as our new school leader.

Dr. Beth Thomas will be stepping up into some new roles as well, working closely together with Dr. Ismerio to help ensure our school runs smoothly this coming year. I am thankful for the good administrative team working closely together.

I have every confidence that in this time of transition of leadership that the Lord will continue to be in our midst, and we will continue to work together to create a truly Catholic school environment in which will shine forth the goodness of God. I would request that you as a family commit yourselves to this Mission and together, we will give glory to God. For in God, nothing is impossible.

Together in Christ;

Fr. Steve Sallot

Pastor

Hello from

Dr. Laura Ismerio, Interim Principal

Hello OLQA Family!

I am truly blessed and humbled to be the Interim Principal for the 2024/2025 school year. Last year, when Dr. Tipton came to me and asked if I would consider taking the principal position, I originally said no because as much as I enjoyed working with teachers, students, and parents, I had always seen my role as one of leading from behind the scenes. I often joked with Dr. Tipton that I was Scottie Pippen to her Michael Jordan. However, this year I was tasked with taking on a bigger role where I helped support all aspects of the school community and recognized that all leaders are called from wherever they are to where they are most needed.

I received my doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University, a Jesuit school. One of the main focuses was on Jesuit leadership, which includes several aspects, but the ones that stuck with me most are that we lead with greater love than fear and that leaders imagine an inspiring future and strive to shape it rather than passively watching the future behind them. Not only have these helped me understand the importance of love and compassion in everything we do, but to use prayer, creativity, and courage to do what others feel is impossible.

A little about me, I’ve been married for nineteen years, I have two girls, one almost done with high school and another entering college. I spent the past two years volunteering in my parish Confirmation program delivering weekly chats to the confirmation teens. I love boxing both as a sport and a workout, and I enjoy watching college basketball and especially rooting for my Alma Mater, Creighton University, Go Jays!

I care deeply about Our Lady and want what is best for our students, teachers, staff, and parents. I truly believe that God places us where we are most needed, and I look forward to the work that God has in store for us and the future that we will shape together. I would like to personally invite you to our Administrative Insight Night on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 6 to 7 p.m. where we will discuss new initiatives and changes.

AMDG,

Dr. Ismerio
