Dear Parents,

Worry. This is a word we might be very familiar with. We may think it is part of the job description of being a parent. However, we may also have the sense that something is awry, and ask ourselves “why am I always on edge/hurried/overwhelmed?”

As children we may remember being quite carefree and seldom having any kind of real worries. However, today, you may see in your own child, or their friends, worries multiplying rather quickly.

One of the directors of our local CYO Camp mentioned recently that he has noticed over the past 5 years a dramatic change in his college camp counselors. Today, most are seeing a therapist regularly for anxiety and stress.

What happened? Why are we so stressed and anxious? And, what can we do?

We will have a two hour late start that day, school will start at 9:45 am. Drop your children off at morning carpool and then head into the Parish Life Center for the presentation. We hope to see you there!

Its that time of the year again to dust off those navy blue pants and make sure they still fit.

Friday September 29th is the last day to wear shorts and skorts until May 1st. Jumpers and skirts are still allowed.

Trash Bag Sale!!

Orders will be collected at the Food Truck Festival at the Sports Booth

It’s time for raking those fall leaves!! The OLMC Sports Program is sponsoring a trash bag sale to raise funds for the sports program. The sale will run from 9/20/23 – 10/4/23. Pick up will be at the gym from 2:30 - 4pm on Thursday, October 12th. Each roll of bags is $13 per roll with a discount if you buy a case (many combine colors). Order forms are being sent home with your youngest child today so please check your child’s backpack for them. Can’t find it? Print an order form HERE. All orders will be collected on paper order forms and payment may be made via cash or check made out to OLMC Sports. Checks/cash must accompany your order form and all order forms must be turned in to the school office by 10/4/23. Any questions, please contact Colleen Sherman at olmctrashbags@olmc1.org or (630) 229-8831.

We will also need volunteers to help sort and fill the orders once they arrive so here is the Sign-Up Genius for helping.

Get your Eclipses NOW before the October 14th Partial Eclipse!!!

Partial Solar Eclipse 10/14/2023

Many of you are aware that there will be a total solar eclipse in Carmel on April 8, 2024 but did you know that there will also be an annular/partial solar eclipse in North America on Saturday October 14, 2023? There are various websites (including https://www.butler.edu/eclipse-2024/) that discuss how to safely view a partial and total eclipse.  One way is to use approved eclipse viewing glasses. As a service to our community, the OLMC PTO is sponsoring an eclipse glasses sale. The eclipse glasses are from one of the five vendors approved by the American Astronomical Society. The proceeds from this sale will benefit our school by funding other eclipse enrichment/STEM activities this school year.

We will be selling eclipse glasses units for $2/each. One unit is a bag containing two pairs of eclipse glasses (which equates to $1 per pair of glasses) and an information sheet with everything you need to know about the two upcoming eclipses.

The units will be sold at the upcoming parish Food Truck Festival near the site of the OLMC PTO Book Fair on the evening of September 28 from 5-8:30pm. Any leftover units will be sold at the Mother’s Mass & Brunch on Monday, October 2.

We will accept cash and checks made payable to OLMC PTO. Due to the fact that these eclipse glasses are not toys and should be handled with care, we will not sell glasses to children, only adults.

Thank you for your support!

If you have any questions about this project, please contact Ann Heilman at lifeisgood94@att.net

All prescription medication must have a completed “Prescribed Medication Permission Form” on file. This form can be obtained from the school nurse or on the school website. Please read the instructions on Pg. 1 of the form. You will also need an order from their physician stating the following: The medication name, dosage, frequency, time to be given, and a statement indicating the medication may be administered at school. Example: "Please administer 10 mg of Adderall at school at noon daily"
Non-prescription medications to be given must also be in the original container (no baggies, please) with written authorization from a parent/guardian detailing when the medication is to be given and the reason for giving it. (Please complete the Medication Permission Form)
*The nurse will not give any medication that is not in the original container/packaging. If a child forgets a medication, parents can bring the medication to school and the student will be called down for the parent to administer medication.

The Latest from Lunch Lady Land...

Did you know that Americans eat 20 BILLION hot dogs every year?! OLMC contributed 224 hot dogs to that number with last week's "End of Summer" Lunch Special. Thanks to the parent volunteers; Danielle Ritter, Angie Howard, Bryan Hood, and Michael Hughs, and 2 of my fellow Lunch Ladies; Michelle Longley and Angie Nalley! Everyone's flexibility and energy was greatly appreciated as we brought the warming stations back to life for the 1st time in 5 + years, hunted down missing watermelon slices, dished out dawgs, and served many smiles!

Milk Updates - Students are welcome to grab their own milk at lunchtime. The lists are available if they would like to cross their name off. On non-catered lunch days, parent volunteers can assist the kiddos as needed.

Kindergarten Helpers - 2 parents are needed during the 1st lunch period to assist our cute and energetic Kindergarteners. Duties are listed on the Kindy Lunch Cart! This is a rewarding part of lunch duty! Plus, time flies when you are opening Gogurts and dishing out paper towels :)

October lunch menus are available on the Google Doc link below. There will be another "Special Lunch" offered in October, and a spooky treat option available on Halloween!
