Our Lady of Mount Carmel School

Golden Cross Award Recipients for November

Maren Yonkman and Elena Montero

The Golden Cross Award is presented to two students a month who exemplify our school motto to be “Stewards for Christ” by using all the gifts that God has given to them, both natural and supernatural, in service to God and others.

The Golden Cross, which these students wear throughout the month, is the greatest symbol of the love Jesus has for us, and His mission, which he expressed in the words “I did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give my life as a ransom for many.” It is Jesus that we seek to imitate through a life of grace and virtue. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

After careful consideration of all nominations submitted, Maren Yonkman and Elena Montero were chosen to receive the Golden Cross Award. Please find here the nominations for both students:

Maren Yonkman shows the virtues of kindness and friendship. She is always so kind and

includes everyone in games or if they are just feeling lonely. She is a good best friend and wants

to be friends to everyone. I love being her friend and so does everyone else. She also never

gossips.

Elena Montero shows the virtues of respect and friendship. She is very respectful when our

class prays the rosary. At recess she includes everyone in a game. If you have not played before,

she will take time to explain it to you.

Teacher/Staff Gift Fund

Let us make your Christmas shopping easier this year! The PTO is collecting Christmas gift money for teachers and staff. The gifts will be pooled together and each teacher and staff member will get their

individual gift in gift cards from RaiseRight (formerly known as SCRIP).

This year you can donate in one of two ways:

1. Click on the Teacher/Staff Gift Fund

2. Send in a check to the school in an envelope marked “PTO Christmas Contribution.” Please make all checks out to OLMC PTO with “Christmas Contribution” in the memo line.

For ease in ordering with RaiseRight (SCRIP), we are kindly asking that you give your donation in $5 increments (Ex. $5, $10, $20, etc). We are also asking that you make your online or check donations by Friday, December 13th. Your room parents will work with the PTO to make sure the teachers and staff receive the gift cards they desire for Christmas.

Thank you for your generous donations.

Wait Until 8th:

Sign the Pledge

We really didn't hesitate in deciding to join the Wait Until 8th Campaign. Joe and I value the innocence of our kids and are very much aware of the constant pull the ‘world’ is having on our youth. Banding together with other like-minded families to protect our kids' childhoods can only

strengthen the family unit. Family time is sacred these days. 75% of the time you spend with your kids (before they turn 18) is gone by the age of 12. Kids being

consumed with their smartphones is just another distraction that takes them away from the love and presence of the family in their life. We hope many more of you will join us in this stand to protect the family by signing the pledge of Wait until 8th!" - Jill Reitz, OLMC parent
