Volume 1 Issue 10

“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.” – Nathaniel Hawthorne

The Poll Results are in!

According to 72% of the people who responded (122) to the poll, it looks like OLLI at DU members pick fall as their favorite season of the year by a wide margin. The rest of the year is not quite as popular: 14% picked spring as their favorite season, compared to 3% who love winter and 11% who love summer.

Of course picking a favorite does not mean that we despise the other seasons. I for one find that seasonal variety is one of the true joys of living in Colorado.

Mark Payler's fall photo safari, filled up almost instantly and he is maintaining a waitlist. Look for more shared interest opportunities like this in the coming months. And, in the meantime, get ready for some learning with the Fall term kicking off next week.

If you have any unanswered questions about how to navigate the fall term, read to the end of this newsletter and you'll get your answers!

Guiding Spirit of American Dance: Martha Graham

FREE MEMBER WEBINAR Register now.

Coming up next week on 9/18 from 10-11:30am

OLLI at DU Facilitator Betsy Schwarm

OLLI at DU members are invited to hear our resident classical music historian Betsy Schwarm discuss how Martha Graham (1894-1991) reimagined classic dance for American audiences. Betsy will explore ballets composed for Graham, including Copeland's Appalachian Spring, as well as how the dance company she founded still carries on her mission with new dance works. She’ll also preview the performances at the DU Newman Center this weekend. Video clips will bring us closer to the genius of Martha Graham. And be sure to apply your OLLI at DU member discount code to the Newman Center Box Office when you buy tickets to Martha Graham Dance performances on September 22 or 23. (you will find the code in your OLLI at DU membership confirmation email)

FIND THE LINK FOR MY ONLINE COURSE?

You have enrolled in your online course through the OLLI at DU registration system. Now, it’s time to register with Zoom so you can receive your personalized meeting invitation (good only for you and for only that particular course).

On the Friday before your online course begins, you will receive an email which contains a link to Zoom registration (one for each online course you are taking). Click on the link in the email and enter your email address and your name in the way you would like it to be displayed in class. Zoom will immediately send you an email with a link you will use EVERY week for your online course. On the evening before each class session, we also will have the system send you a reminder of your personalized link but it is good to save the initial email!

HOW TO GET TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR ZOOM?

Need assistance right before or during class? Our facilitators and class assistants will be busy with conducting the class so if you need assistance, be sure you have the phone number or email of the OLLI at DU staff member supporting the online course. Do not contact the facilitator or class assistant with technical questions as every course has a staff member assigned to it. Many challenges are because your computer audio is set too low or your video is turned off. You can also watch our video on the website on How to Zoom.
