The Emergency Nurses Association and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership have updated their “Guiding Principles” on Mitigating Violence in the Workplace and related toolkit.
The toolkit highlights six steps to address and mitigate violence:
  • Understand the definitions and types of workplace violence
  • Create a culture of non-violence in which all threats or incidents of violence are a priority
  • Assess facilities for risk and mitigating those factors
  • Develop a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan
  • Train and deploy staff on a continuous basis
  • Evaluate and measure impact of violence prevention programs

The Rutgers Center for Public Health Workforce Development is happy to offer a new online training program - Opioids in the Workplace: Awareness. This 1-hour training is free and entirely web based. The training was developed based on the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Worker Training Program’s Opioids and the Workplace Training Tool. This course is designed for all workers, especially workers and employers who may be impacted by the opioid crisis, and it provides an evidence-based worker training program. At the end of the training, participants will receive a certificate of completion.
