The Ohio Craft Museum’s summer exhibition is an exciting showcase of outstanding work by 26 artists who have been working in the fine craft field for less than 10 years. Artists were nominated by university professors and instructors; they work in clay, glass, fiber, wood, metal or mixed media.
Rachel Smith, a Cleveland metals artist and prototyping manager at Sears [think]box at Case Western Reserve University (and an artist in one of the first emerging shows), curated the exhibition. “The show is full of work driven by each artist’s individual style and concept,” she said. “These ideas are strengthened through each artist’s skill, craftsmanship and thoughtful use of materials. Some works examine identity, personal narratives and memory; others are highly detailed in form and function.”
An evening reception will be held Saturday, August 12, 5:30 pm–7:30 pm; curator and artists’ talks will begin at 6:30 pm. The exhibition closes September 30.
