CHALLENGE DRIVE 2024

Best of 2024 Awards Fundraising Campaign

Ohio Designer Craftsmen celebrates the accomplishments of fine craft artists with the annual “Best of” exhibitions and awards. Both are meaningful ways to encourage outstanding artists in their pursuit of excellence. In 2023, donations to the drive by ODC members and friends of the Ohio Craft Museum made possible a $2000 Challenge Prize, the $2000 Yassenoff Family Award for Excellence/Watkins Printing Poster Award, the $500 Brooke Hannan Emerging Artist Scholarship Award, an Emerging Craftsman award, 12 additional cash awards, and a $1000 Artist Scholarship Award.

Please consider donating to this drive—100% of your donation goes directly to the artists and is tax deductible.

Traversing Textiles

at the Ohio Craft Museum

February 11–March 30, 2024

We are looking forward to the upcoming exhibition, “Traversing Textiles,“ curated by Columbus artist Char Norman and showcasing superb examples of textiles and fiber art by 20 local and regional artists. Norman invited artists who utilize a variety of techniques, such as weaving, felting, tatting, stitching, quilting and basketry, and who create traditional forms, as well as works that look at societal, political and environmental issues.

An opening reception will be held at the Ohio Craft Museum on Sunday, February 11, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Char Norman and several exhibition artists will discuss the exhibition at 2:00 pm.

This year’s presenters are Mark Nafziger and Lisa Orr—need I say more?? If you’ve been to the workshop, you know Mark, who’s not only a fantastic artist but an all-around nice guy! And if you know Lisa’s work, you know she just has to be a fun person. Both will be demonstrating their unique decorative techniques, as well as throwing, handbuilding and altering. A special Friday evening event: Lisa will be firing a rocket kiln, a fast-fire, low-smoke kiln, behind the arts center. (She’ll be building it Thursday.)

Held at the Wayne Center for the Arts in Wooster, this is a demonstration-only workshop. The $170 registration fee ($70 for students) includes 2 box lunches. Optional/additional $25 fee: Friday’s dinner will be held at the Wayne Center for the Arts, and includes Gionino’s Pizza, salads by Lindsay Obrecht, cobbler and cookies by Lindsay Obrecht.
