Fall has finally arrived; tennis and pickleball players are enjoying cooler temperatures.
With only a few weeks left in our fall season, please remember good sportsmanship and knowing the rules keep your matches fun and competitive.
We had our TCD Volunteer Luncheon yesterday. Congratulations to Shelley Vick, this year’s recipient of the Phyllis Brennan Award which is presented annually to an outstanding TCD volunteer. Corrine Gregor and her committee did a fantastic job arranging this event. I’d like to thank our wonderful TCD volunteers once again! You make a difference and what you do for TCD makes a difference. You bring skills, advice, experience, and friendship. You are an essential part of TCD, and you keep it running. Your dedication is appreciated, and TCD is grateful to each of you.
Our next event is the End of Year Event and Awards Ceremony on November 17th at the Dallas Arboretum. Details are coming soon. I hope to see you there.
We also have the WTA Champions for Change on November 2nd . MCB has arranged for TCD to purchase tickets for a light brunch and Q&A with tennis legend Martina Navratilova. Space is limited. WTA is also making a contribution to MCB to help support their wonderful programs.
See you on the courts!

CONGRATULATIONS
SHELLEY VICK
TCD VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Shelley Vick was presented The Phyllis Brennan Award at the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held Tuesday at Sixty Vines in Dallas. Cindy Brinker Simmons, President of the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation, presented the award, affectionately known as the "TCD Volunteer of the Year Award". Shelley served as the 2022 Tournamant Special Committee Chair. She also serves as a Ladies League Flight Coordinator and she served on the 2021 Nominating Committee. When the Tournament Director position was left vacant after the election of the 2022 Board, Shelley was asked to chair the Tournament Special Committee. She accepted the challenge of this huge task without hesitation. She began immediately preparing for the Spring Tournament, which unfortunately, was rained out. Disappointed but not discouraged, she began to plan for the Fall Tournament, which was a huge success. Shelley is a great representative of TCD both on and off the court. Our volunteers make TCD Tennis and Pickleball great, and Shelley and others like her are the reason why. Congratulations, Shelley!

The Phyllis Brennan Award was created in 1992 and is presented annually by MCB to an outstanding TCD volunteer. Phyllis is pictured above coordinating ball girls for the Virginia Slims Tournament. Not sure of the date of the photo but the phone gives you a pretty good idea.

Happy Fall Ladies! The weather has cooled down, (slightly!), and we only have three weeks left of TCD fall tennis! It’s amazing, (and a little sad), how fast our seasons go by. We have been really lucky weather-wise this fall with blue skies, no real wind and NO RAIN! YEE HAW!
As we are in the final stages, I wanted to remind everyone of some key rules to remember:
- Lineups are to be COMPLETELY filled out upon exchange with opposing captains. First AND last names are to be written on score sheets, not first name and last initial, or last name and first initial……FIRST AND LAST NAMES!
- ALL LINES are to START at the same time! We’ve had a few defaults at line one due to missing players.
- Defaults START at line 4 and move up accordingly! (See #2 above for reference!).
- NO coaching during the match! Players can ask for “advice” after the second set ONLY!
Lastly, PLEASE try and practice good etiquette and good sportsmanship.
Kindness costs NOTHING and we should all be in really good moods because we are playing the sport we all LOVE! Remember to wish “good or fun match” before you start and to clink racquets, offering “congratulations” after the match is finished.
Relish these next few weeks, enjoy the sun on your backs, laughter with your teammates, yummie lunches afterwards and again, being fortunate enough to play the game WE LOVE!! Afterall, in 4 weeks it’ll be time to plan Thanksgiving, decorate for Christmas, shop and WRAP…..ARGH!! How I wish TCD was ALL YEAR LONG!!
HAPPY TENNIS LADIES!!!

Hi Mixed Doubles Players! Five weeks of our nine/ten week season are in the books with the exception of five rescheduled
matches from week three which was September 25. The rain came late in the day on that Sunday, so we were able to complete the majority of our matches. However, there were sixteen matches that were not completed. And as all you captains know, EACH captain has to file the
dreaded Match Reschedule Report (MRR). The Board felt that a clarification of the existing rules governing the filing of the MRR was needed and thus the below change, highlighted in RED, was approved during the October Board of Directors meeting. I refer you to page 7 of our Rules, Section K. RAIN DELAYED MATCHES
b. In Mixed Doubles league, BOTH captains must submit the MATCH RESCHEDULE REPORT prior to the completion of the rescheduled match or within seven (7) days of the original match date, whichever occurs first.
Please keep this revision in mind as we go forward with the remainder of our season. Should questions arise, please contact your Flight Coordinator.
Let’s keep doing that sunshine dance!
Happy Tennis!

Is Pickleball taking over the world???
Why, yes; yes, it is! Pickleball is everywhere. On the news, on social media, on an upcoming television show competition with Stephen Colbert; LeBron James and Tom Brady have bought Major League Pickleball teams, Tennis Channel broadcasts professional pickleball matches, local facilities have been building dedicated courts with permanent nets and recently, Royal Oaks Country Club hosted professional pickleball players Ben Johns, Collin Johns, AJ Kohler and local 5.0 player Brandon French in an exhibition match.
Are you playing yet? Why not?
See you on the courts!

It is time to point out a couple of rules that seem to be problematic at times.
-
Please fill out the score sheets COMPLETELY! That means first AND last names. Too many captains are depending on the drop down from the website to put in last names. If the complete names are not written on the scoresheet, the score sheet is incomplete. This rule is under Captains’ Responsibilities G. 5.
- Do not start your match until all players are on site. We encourage you to start the matches on time, however, if one team has a player missing you must wait the allotted 15 minutes before starting any of the matches in case of a default.
- Home team captains, please contact your opposing captain reminding them of the time of the match and any other specific rules your facility may have or any kind of traffic problems.
- You may advise the opposing captain if you have warm up courts or not. Each facility has their own rules as to warming up next to a match in play.
- In case of rain, BOTH captains must fill out the Match Reschedule Report. The Flight Coordinators need these reports so they can enter the new match times on the website. In Ladies Doubles, Love-50 Doubles and Love-60 Doubles you must submit the Match Reschedule Report by MIDNIGHT three (3) days following the originally scheduled match.
-
NEW RULE FOR MIXED DOUBLES RAIN OUTS. V. MATCH PLAY. K. 3. MATCH RESCHEDULE REPORT, b. In Mixed Doubles League, BOTH captains must submit the MATCH RESCHEDULE REPORT prior to the completion of the rescheduled match or within seven (7) days of the original match date, whichever occurs first.
- REMEMBER YOUR SPORTSMANSHIP EVERYONE! TENNIS AND PICKLEBALL IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN TO PLAY!
