Florida Power & Light Company is leading the way to cleaner energy landscapes.
Pictured Above: The FPL solar trees and solar canopies at Manatee Lagoon provide shade to visitors while generating clean energy for the grid.
To date, FPL has built 12 large-scale solar energy centers throughout Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast that, together, feature more than three million solar panels. They produce enough clean, emissions-free energy to power about 180,000 homes per year while preventing emissions equivalent to removing close to 168,000 cars from the road annually. The clean energy generated by these solar energy centers feeds directly into the grid to power Florida homes and businesses in our community and beyond.

FPL also demonstrates clean energy in the local community through the FPL SolarNow program. The solar trees and canopies at Riverview Park in Indian River County; Kiwanis Park in Martin County; Jessica Clinton Park in St. Lucie County; and popular destinations like the Palm Beach International Airport and the Palm Beach Zoo in Palm Beach County not only provide much-needed shade on sunny Florida days, but they also serve as symbols of clean energy in the community.

Manatee Lagoon, an FPL Eco-Discovery Center®, is another fantastic place to see clean energy in action right here in the community. It was designed to help visitors understand Florida’s manatees and their surrounding ecosystem, and it brings clean energy to life with solar trees and canopies.

Halloween Doesn't Have to be Scary !
Do you have a sweet tooth? I definitely do! Whether in weight loss mode or maintenance mode, you don't have to avoid the Halloween candy.  Instead, let's talk about making better choices and enjoying them in moderation. Since overindulging and feeling deprived seems to sabotage us. Try these tips instead …

Choose a 100 calorie snack-size portion.  Of course, you have to watch how many pieces you eat if you want to lose weight, but you don't have to give up chocolate and sugar or ignore your sweet tooth. Use the chart below to help you along the way.

As Halloween approaches, purchase your candy at the last minute so it won't be sitting around temping you and your family each time you walk past it.

Then, after the great event of "trick or treating," stash the goodies in containers and put them away inside the pantry, freezer, or cabinet. Be mindful.  Out of sight, out of mind, comes into play here.

Finally, take one or two pieces out for lunch boxes, a mid-afternoon treat, or after-dinner dessert.

Once or twice a week, swap out the sugary soda, juice, or cocktail for the candy treat.

Finally, fall is here, and the weather is changing. So now is the perfect time to take a walk around your neighborhood to start moving your body and burning calories.

Black Gold Jubilee Booklet will also become Digital!
Although the 2022 Black Gold Jubilee is still six months away, planning has already begun!

Each year a jubilee booklet is designed, printed and distributed, but next year it will be different. In addition to having the printed booklet, there will be a digital version on both the Black Gold Jubilee Website and the Belle Glade Chamber's Website.

"With technology changing we want to take advantage of it and to offer our advertisers and sponsors more of a return for their investment in the jubilee" commented Lamar Weathers, booklet editor.

The booklets from the past two jubilees have been converted to a digital format and are available to view on the Black Gold Jubilee website under the Booklet Tab, and on the Belle Glade Chamber of Commerce website by clicking on the Events tab and then the Local Events tab.

Those booklets are seen here with the link to their full digital version located below them.

Leadership Glades
Class Graduation
The long-awaited graduation for the Leadership Glades Class of 2019-2020 took place on September 24,2021 at the Lawrence E. Will Museum.

The 2020 pandemic prevented the class from attending the Water Management Day with airboat ride; and from completing the 2020 Leadership Program and from graduating.

Lunch was catered by Sam King, and the ceremony was followed with an opportunity (or those who desired) to receive that missed airboat ride - provided by Master Gator Airboat Tours.
