Contemporary Dance and Classical Ballet Combined in Orange County Ballet Theater's Inaugural Barclay Theatre Performance

Under the artistic direction of Dmitri and Jennifer Kulev, Laguna Hills-based Orange County Ballet Theatre (OCBT) performed new contemporary works by the internationally recognized choreographer Viktor Kabaniaev, in addition to excerpts from the ballet classic, Swan Lake on May 20, 2011 at the Irvine Barclay Theater. The dynamic Black Swan Pas de Deux was technically mastered and beautifully performed by Maria Kochetkova and Gennadi Nedvigin, principal dancers with the San Francisco Ballet.
Other highlights from the OCBT performance included two of Orange County's rising young dance stars, Sam Zaldivar, 2010 Youth America Grand Prix Junior Division winner and Classical Dance Grand Prize winner at the 23rd Annual LA Music Center Spotlight Awards, and Devyn Lovett, First Runner Up in the Non-Classical Category at the Spotlight Awards. Zaldivar and Lovett wowed audiences with their technical skills and fluidity in movement in both contemporary and classical repertoire. Other members of the OCBT youth company performing selected solo pieces from Swan Lake included Quinn Mason, Lauren Denney, Jennifer Bummer, Patrick Frenette, Grace Fulton, Bryce Lee and a host of others!
