CONGRATS CLASS OF 2023
Surrounded by family and friends, the Class of 2023 celebrated a joyous commencement on the Lower Field. The ceremony included words of wisdom from this year’s Cor Unum Awardee Tracey Borst, recent member of O’Dowd’s Board of Regents and parent of an O’Dowd alumnus. “Making a difference is not solely reserved for the chosen few or the extraordinary,” shared Tracey. “It is within the reach of every single one of you sitting here today. DRAGON PRIDE IS ALIVE
In the excitement leading to graduation, O’Dowd kicked off our annual Giving Challenge, with Dragons of all ages contributing to the future of the school. “People like Mr. Mason, Mr. and Mrs. Green, and Ms. Warmerdam made O'Dowd feel like home,” reflects Claudia Topete ‘04. “The friendships forged during those four years of high school are forever. DRAGON ALUM NAMED IN 40 UNDER 40
Drew Glover '04 was recently recognized as one of the “40 Under 40” by the San Francisco Business Times. Drew, a co-founder and general partner at Fiat Ventures, prioritizes investing in the next generation of entrepreneurs and improving how they engage with money, business, growth and venture capital. "O’Dowd helped me evolve into the leader I’ve worked so hard to become," shares Drew. "The community and demanding culture gave me the confidence I needed to excel in any room. I look back on my time there with a big smile on face."

O’DOWD STUDENTS SHINE WITH UC ACCEPTANCES
A recent report from the San Francisco Chronicle shared that students from the Class of 2022 achieved an impressive acceptance rate to campuses across the University of California! A whopping 76% of O'Dowd students who applied to a UC received an acceptance letter - significantly higher than other public and private high schools in the East Bay, where admission rates ranged from 51% to 70%. This remarkable accomplishment highlights O'Dowd's commitment to academic excellence, positioning students for success in higher education.

SPRING SPORTS ROUND UP
Over 370 student-athletes donned their O’Dowd jersey or swimsuit this spring to compete as Dragons. With nine spring sports programs, our student-athletes grew in sportsmanship, athletic skill, and tenacity. All nine varsity teams participated in the WACC League Championships before moving on to NCS and in some cases NorCal and CIF Championships. The Crozier’s sportswriters Sam Hokkanen ’24 and Raven Robinson ’24 share the highlights of this year’s spring sports season. Read more.

THANK YOU, J. D.!
This year’s commencement marked a special farewell to President J. D. Childs. Since joining O’Dowd in 2016, J. D. led the community first as principal and later as president. During his tenure J. D. supported families, faculty and staff, alumni, and our Board of Regents in various projects and initiatives including the opening of the Bishop John S. Cummins Center. With grateful hearts we wish J. D. and his family joy in their next adventures at Marist School in Georgia.

Our talented thespians and musical theater artists hosted a spring showcase for their families in the Kelly Family and Erin Jaeb Black Box Theater. The evening included everyone's favorite musical numbers and a celebration of the arts!

Our Journalism class released this year's edition of The Muse, our literary and art magazine. Co-Editors-in-Chief Hillary Johnson ’23 and Ruby Sexton ’23 designed this issue to showcase the art we find in the world around us. ART TEACHER THIEN PHAM'S NEW BOOK RELEASE
A moving young adult graphic memoir about a Vietnamese immigrant boy's search for belonging in America, Family Style tells Thien’s story fleeing Vietnam, living in a Thailand refugee camp, and resettling in California. With each experience, Thien illustrates how food connected his family. Family Style is available in local bookstores and online beginning June 20.

LINKEDIN WORKSHOP
Juniors and seniors worked in small groups with our career counselor Julia Diskin ’06 to learn how to use LinkedIn to build their professional profiles. Students created accounts, reflected on their authentic selves, and explored the benefits of using this career-focused platform.

JENNIFER MERSCHDORF ’92 is currently the CEO of Young Survival Coalition (YSC) and the author of Wild Rose, a novel that New Degree Press published in January 2023. Wild Rose is about four women born in very different times who find unexpected power in supporting one another.

SOPHIA YAU-WEEKS ’17 is an independent singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from folk and alternative artists from the 60s to 90s to early 2000s, and aims to tell stories through song. Sophia played her first London show on May 25, 2023.

KEVIN NEWELL ’20 accepted a six-month internship with the City of Portland as an Engineering Trainee through the Multiple Engineering Cooperative Program at Oregon State University. Kevin is working on several projects with the Portland Water Bureau, including the restoration of the Ira Keller and McCoy Fountains.
