Dear Aristoi Parent & Guardians,
At Aristoi, one of our core beliefs is: I am at school to become morally self-disciplined and intellectually well-ordered. We hold dear the values that form the foundation of a strong character. Supporting these core beliefs are the pillars of virtue, of which, honesty is an essential component. Honesty is not merely a moral lesson but a fundamental aspect of becoming a responsible citizen.
Honesty can be defined as telling the truth, but it goes far beyond words. It encompasses being truthful in our actions, thoughts, and intentions. Honesty is the foundation for the formation of trust, which is the basis of healthy relationships, both personal and professional. Honesty is also closely woven into integrity, which is the consistency between one's values and actions. When our students are honest, they are upholding their own moral standards and demonstrating their commitment to doing what is right, even if no one is watching.
At Aristoi, we take deliberate steps to instill the virtue of honesty in our students. Our students learn to recognize honesty as a virtue and understand its significance through character education that can take place in the classroom, Communitas, or through the use of rich literature, discussions and activities. A Pair of Red Clogs by M. Matsuno, The Empty Pot by Demi Phillips, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf by Aesop are a few examples of children’s literature you may read at home to further illustrate and discuss the virtue of honesty.
As adults we want to be role models, demonstrating honesty in our interactions with students and each other. By witnessing honesty in action, students are more likely to internalize this virtue and apply it in their own lives. By nurturing the virtue of honesty, we empower our young scholars to become trustworthy, responsible, and principled individuals.
