April 2024 BRIEF #4

HELP!  Class Ring Found—Owner Unknown

1966 Class Ring Mystery

Deb Morrison, Fort Wayne, IN, recently contacted Carol Chelemer, Alumni Association Chairperson, about finding an Albert Einstein High School class ring from 1966 with the initials “LCM” amongst her family belongings. No one in Deb’s family knows who or how her family ended up with the ring. Deb posted on the AEHS Facebook page two different times that she is looking for a man with the initials of LCM from the class of 1966, but she got no responses. Deb would like to contact the owner of the ring or a family member and pass the class ring onto them. Carol herself was in the Class of 1966 and found one person in the yearbook with those first and last initials but no middle initial, Lawrence Milto. Unfortunately, there is no Lawrence Milto in the AEHS Constant Contact database so Carol was unable to find Lawrence and Deb’s family does not know a Lawrence Milto, to her knowledge. If you have any information or ideas about who “LCM” could be or how to contact him, please email alumni@aehshof.com and we’ll pass along the information to Deb Morrison.

Thank You for Your Support of Your Alumni Association

It’s over! No more emails urging you to donate to the Alumni Association. Now we move forward to the Alumni Association’s busiest time of the year. We will be awarding three scholarships in May: two to students ($3,000 each) receiving our First in the Family scholarships and one to our first recipient ($2,500) of the Michael D. Wolf Memorial Scholarship endowed by Barbara Wolf. As we go to press, we have not learned the identity of these worthy individuals—look for a story next month.

If you meant to donate but missed the “deadline” or forgot, we’d love to receive further donations. Just visit www.aehshof.com and follow the prompt for Alumni Association donations.

AEHS HIGHLIGHTS

AEHS Stages a Wonderful Production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”

By Carol Chelemer

It’s always wonderful to see AEHS’s theatrical productions. They are the result of many students, staff, and volunteers who come together to create memorable settings, characters, and stories. This year’s Spring Musical was no exception; in fact, it may represent a new plateau of TERRIFIC.

Kudos to everyone involved onstage and behind the scenes. Special congratulations to Mr. Peter Smeallie for his leadership and vision.

Thank you to Tony Ventouris (AEHS alumnus) and Pete Duvall (parent of a member of the orchestra) for the photos.

Farewell to our Athletic Director

From Malcolm Wilson

Athletic Director Jermaine Howell has announced he is stepping down after years in that position. He has accepted a job as head football coach at Wheaton HS and will also be a PE and Health Teacher there. This ends a run of at least 20 years for him in the Einstein cluster, as he taught at Newport prior to combining over to Einstein, where he was a JV Football Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Varsity.

MCCPTA Reflections Program Winners from AEHS

Go On To Win Awards At State Level

From Nicole Grant, 2024 PTSA Reflections Coordinator and AEHS Parent

I am super excited to share that two of our Einstein students have been honored in the Reflections Arts Program at the state level (Free State PTA).  All students who are Free State PTA honorees will receive a small cash prize along with a certificate in the mail from the Free State PTA.  This usually comes in June/July and there is a ceremony held by Free State PTA during the annual Free State PTA convention that is usually held in July/August.

Prett Cotton was given the Award of Merit in the Film Production category.  Prett’s film is titled “Imaginative”.

Lauren Chiu was listed as an Outstanding Interpretation winner in the Photography category.  Lauren’s photograph (see below) is titled “Down by 10”.  At this level, their artwork has been submitted to the National PTA's Reflections Program/Competition - winners from the National PTA Reflections program will be announced in May.

We are pleased to join Nicole in congratulating these two amazing artists!

We are grateful for notifications from AEHS alumni about recent and especially past deaths of classmates so that we may remember them by adding the deceased to the In Memoriam list at https://www.aehshof.com/in-memoriam. Names are added to the page as soon as possible after notification has been received. We are still adding names of alumni who passed away many, many years ago, so it’s never too late to add someone. Please send In Memoriam notifications to InMemoriam@aehshof.com.
