Hilary Shaw with Abbie Shelter presents a special Brown Bag Lunch on September 14th.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - known as DEI - can often feel like the elephant in the room. None of us set out with the belief that only some people deserve our services, but the reality is that our services sometimes favor some people over others. As nonprofit leaders, we bear a responsibility to push the edge of DEI and create model nonprofits in which all people - employees and clients alike - are empowered to thrive.
This workshop will encourage group thought about the why's and how's of DEI. We'll tackle important questions like:
- Why is it important to have an inclusive nonprofit?
- Who benefits?
- How do I create equitable policies and an inclusive culture?
- What are the benefits of a diverse team?
- What are my organization's barriers to DEI?
- Am I showing up as the person I want to be with DEI in my nonprofit?
You'll walk away with at least 2 tangible action steps that will help improve DEI in your nonprofit.
Hilary is the executive director of the Abbie Shelter, the Flathead service provider for victims & survivors of domestic & sexual violence. Hilary's experience in nonprofit management has spanned from outdoor education, to youth, to people with developmental disabilities, to training & technical assistance, and ultimately to victim & trauma work with women & families. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Montana Human Rights Network. Hilary is a vocal activist for work-life balance amongst nonprofit professionals, therefore her baby girl, big black dog, recreation, and husband are always more important than her work (not necessarily in that order). She enjoys skiing, climbing, hiking, and reading science fiction novels.
Remember that the coffee (and tea) pots will be on, to go with your brown bag lunch!
Thursday, September 14 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
