Your guide to what's happening at the nursery this month
November 2020
Hello November!
As fall's go in Colorado, we have certainly had quite a ride. In the last month alone we have had a big snowstorm and seen both 85F and 7F and everything in between! What a wild place we get to call home!
As usual, this time of year we find ourselves looking forward to so much. We are gearing up for the holiday season which will include the arrival of our fresh Christmas Trees, a shimmering array of holiday shop items, a Holiday Open House and a visit from Santa on Saturday, December 5th. We are wrapping up the 2020 season but will be working hard over the winter to spruce up the nursery for next season. If there are specific plants you would like us to consider for next season, now would be an excellent time to let us know as we prepare for next year's inventory.

Tree wrap is used to prevent Sunscald which usually occurs during winter and early spring. Intense sunlight warms the surface of the trees to the point of stimulating cell activity in the bark. A sudden drop in temperature at night can cause damage to the tree resulting in a condition known as Sunscald. Tree wrap is necessary for, not only newly planted trees but also thin barked trees, like soft maple, honeylocust and crabapples. Wrap from Thanksgiving to Easter!

"Two sounds of autumn are unmistakable, the hurrying rustle of crisp leaves blown along the street or road by a gusty wind, and the gabble of a flock of migrating geese. Both are warnings of chill days ahead, fireside and topcoat weather."

“November comes and November goes, with the last red berries and the first white snows. With night coming early, and dawn coming late, and ice in the bucket and frost by the gate. The fires burn and the kettles sing, and earth sinks to rest until next spring.” ― Clyde Watson
