Embracing A Divine Calling: Introducing The Luevano Family

We are thrilled to introduce you to an incredible family who has dedicated their lives to serving others and spreading the love of Christ. The Luevano family (Ernesto, Linda, Karen and Ernesto Jr), originally from Monterrey, Mexico, has embarked on an inspiring journey as they oversee the mission work in Houston's Greater East End and the Joy Mission Center, becoming an integral part of our mission to bring hope and transformation to our city.

Pastor Ernesto, along with his wife and children, made the faith-filled decision to move to Texas in 2013 following the instructions they believed God had given them. Little did they know the profound impact they would have on the lives of countless individuals. Ernesto shares, "I came to Texas on vacation with my family, but after that visit, I received a clear call from the Lord to pastor in the United States. I saw the great need among the Hispanic community, and how many were disoriented without Christ."

Motivated by their deep faith and compassion for others, the Luevano family dedicated themselves to serving their community in SE Houston for the past six years. During this time, they established "Iglesia Bautista Hispana 'La Biblia Dice Asi'" (which translates to "The Bible Says So" Hispanic Baptist Church), located in near the intersection of I-45 and Griggs Rd. Their church became a beacon of hope, offering spiritual guidance and support to those in need.

In 2021, Ernesto and his family formed a relationship with Mission Centers of Houston, becoming the first member of our Compassion Center network. Recognizing the alignment of their vision and mission, it was evident that together we could make an even greater impact on the lives of those we serve. In November of 2023, the Luevano family officially joined the Mission Centers team, taking on the responsibility of overseeing all mission work in the Greater East End and the Joy Mission Center.

The Luevano family's passion for serving others and their unwavering dedication to sharing the gospel perfectly embodies the spirit of Mission Centers of Houston. Their presence and leadership through the Joy Mission Center will undoubtedly bring hope, joy, and transformation to many lives in our community.

As we welcome the Luevano family to our team, we invite you to join us in celebrating their arrival and praying for their continued strength and guidance. Together, let us support and uplift one another as we strive to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Ministry Spotlights

Annual Thanksgiving Meal at Gano Mission Center

Every year on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving the Near Northside community looks forward to enjoying a home-cooked dinner prepared by Champion Forest Baptist Church. It is a ministry tradition that has been carried on for over 20 years! This year, 240 community members were each blessed by a delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings, a presentation of the Gospel, and a bag of groceries to take home. The church had collected so many groceries for the event that we were able to stock our food pantries at both Gano and Joy Mission Centers! Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all the volunteers who made it possible.

A Grateful Gathering at Joy Mission Center

In this season of thanksgiving, all the seniors were thankful for the food and activities we had at our Thanksgiving party. We had an amazing Thanksgiving lunch cooked by our volunteers, and we enjoyed bingo where everyone was a winner! We finished the day with a Bible study that was touching for everyone. Everyone left and with a big smile on their faces and a heart full of gratitude.

Compassion In Action

This month at the Compassion Center, we were honored to have churches from around the city volunteer at the Compassion Center Warehouse throughout November to sort and prepare clothing, toys, and household goods for the outreaches that our Compassion Center partners are doing for Christmas. Volunteers from United City Church, Abiding Fellowship Christian Church, and Bethany Baptist Church had a wonderful time serving and fellowshipping as they prepared the donations for people in need. Please pray for The Compassion Center partner churches as they minister to their communities with the compassion of Christ this Christmas season.

Volunteer Highlight

Greg and Annadell Robbins

Inspiring Couple's Journey Of Volunteerism

Greg and Annadell have a passion for serving other through the love, mercy, and grace of Jesus Christ. They started serving at Mission Centers of Houston in 2003 at the Gano Christmas Store, a ministry designed to bring a smile and gifts to the kids that attended kids club regularly. Soon after, they served at the Fletcher Center until it closed in 2015. The Robbins then came back to Gano where they have been serving ever since. A few years ago, their hearts became inclined to the homeless population in the Near Northside, at which time they and several other volunteers from their church established a wonderful ministry affectionately known by the Gano team as "Bless the Homeless".

They now help lead this growing ministry made up of many people from different churches who, like the Robbins, love to serve others with the love of Christ. Besides serving weekly at our Monday homeless luncheon, they help organize four big events during the year where the volunteers decorate the gym, prepare home cooked meals, and provide much-needed personal and seasonal items to the attendees. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to the Robbins for their example to us all as they serve. May the Lord continue to bless them and their partnership with us. To God be the Glory!!

Nourishing Hope: Sprouts and Mission Centers of Houston Join Forces

We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Sprouts, a cherished partner in our mission to support families in need. Together, we celebrated the spirit of Giving Tuesday, and the impact we made would not have been possible without their invaluable support.

Giving Tuesday was an incredible opportunity for us to come together as a community, driven by a shared purpose to uplift the less fortunate. With Sprouts' partnership, we were able to reach out to families facing challenging circumstances and extend a helping hand during this season of giving. Their dedication to our cause has been truly inspirational, and we are humbly blessed by their generosity.

Through their support, we were able to provide essential resources to those who need it most. As we reflect on the success of our Giving Tuesday partnership, we offer our deepest thanks to Sprouts for their ongoing support, compassion, and dedication to serving others. Together, we have demonstrated the power of unity and showcased the transformative potential of Mission Centers of Houston and compassionate businesses working hand in hand.
