Welcome
to Woodsy's Music of Medina
Greetings!
It's
November already, and that means we'll soon be kicking off the
holiday season! Most of you know that in Medina we do that each
year with the Candle Light Walk. It's a
week-end long festival on the square with activities, music, food,
a parade, and Santa's first appearance of the season! All the
stores are open later, and the sidewalks are all lit by candles.
As a Medina native I can't think of a better way to get the
holidays started!
Make sure you check out the bottom of this e-mail for a coupon

Ukuleles For
The Holidays!
For
those of you that may not know the Ukulele is a small 4 stringed
instrument that gained it's popularity in Hawaii. It is believed
to have been derived from a Portuguese instrument, and was made
wildly popular when it caught on with the Hawaiian royalty and
nobles.
Lately
it has been gaining a lot popularity in North America. In fact in
Canada many students learn uke in school rather than the recorder
like here in the states. Guitar players have a really easy time
picking up the uke, and young children find it easier to hold the
smaller bodied instrument.
They
make a great inexpensive holiday gift. We even have complete get
started kits that include the instrument, a book, and DVD for $35!
There are also higher quality options from instrument make Oscar
Schmidt that come with a carrying bag and DVD for $99.

need to know about ukes!

Newly
Rennovated Lesson Studios!
If you have been in the store lately, you may have noticed a
lot of hammering, sawing, and just general noise coming from our
basement. That's the sound of our new lesson studios being
constructed. When it's finished there will be a large ensemble
room, and 4 smaller lesson rooms. There will also be a large
common area where we intend to do things like goup lessons, product
demos, clinics, and open mic nights. Our goal is to have the rooms
completed by the first of the year. During the candle light walk
we will be having an open house, and doing walk throughs of the
nearly completed lesson studios.

Teacher
Spotlight: Mike Edwards-Guitar and Bass
Continuing with our
monthly Teacher Spotlight we will be featuring our guitar and bass
teacher Mike Edwards. He is also Woodsy's Music's little claim to
fame, but I'll let him tell you about that.
You teach guitar and bass, but
your primary instrument in college was the bass. Which one do you
like better?
It Depends. When I'm in a band setting I
like to play the bass, but if I'm doing something solo I prefer the
guitar. I also play piano though, and I like to play that in
either situation.
How Long have you been playing
for?
I've been playing one way or
another since I was 10. That's when I started playing the piano.
When I was 15 I started playing the bass and I picked up the guitar
shortly after that when I turned 18.
I understand that you play
professionally for a rather well known Cleveland native. Can you
tell us a little bit about that?
I got a call about 5 years ago to
audition for Sonny Geraci's("Precious And Few" and "Time Won't Let
Me") touring band. I auditioned and got the job playing the bass.
It's a really fun job. Along with playing for Sonny, I also get to
fill in for a lot of other classic bands. They have some
really outrageous stories to tell.
What do you feel are the keys to
success for students?
Consistency, diversity, and a
positive, bright attitude. Even students with tremendous talent
will fall short of their potential without a good
attitude.
Briefly, what is your teaching
philosophy?
I like to get to the heart of
what the student wants to play then break it down into pieces and
put them together slowly and steadily.

chord charts, tablature, music, and even a tuner. If you have a
uke and are looking for some help, or are just curious
about them this is certainly the place to go!
