What Is Autism?
Handling Tantrums
All children feel big emotions sometimes: anger, frustration, impatience, sadness. And that’s okay. It’s what they do with these feelings that counts. Grown-ups know how hard it is when big feelings cause big meltdowns, but you can help kids identify and name their feelings and learn to act in a positive way. When you show kids how to manage big feelings and stay calm, you’re showing that there are other ways to deal with overwhelming emotions. But it’s not always easy to be patient when a child acts out, so take time for yourself, too!

What's your story?
One of many PSD success stories!
Hello, my name is Maria Andalon and I am the Custodian at Rialto Renaissance Head Start. When my daughter was in preschool I asked the clerk “How can I apply for a job here for food service?” At that time in my life I already had a food handlers card and knowledge in the food service industry. The clerk gave me all the information needed that included me having to do community service hours and take course classes. The clerk told me the process would be long, so I proceeded to do what was necessary. She told me applying for the job as a custodian would be easier because there weren't many positions open for food service at that time, and later on it will be easier to change my position to food service. My first site was at Westminster. My position is a custodian, I worked there for around 4 years. I am now working at Rialto Renaissance.I have enjoyed working for PSD because it has allowed me to spend time with my daughters. I get to enjoy every spring, summer and winter break with them. I can say that I really don't miss out on my daughters life’s because of work. Working at PSD as a custodian is a tough job, but the little bit of interaction I have with the kids at work truly makes up for it. From them saying “Good morning Miss Andalon” or them simply saying “Goodbye Miss Andalon” with a hug included makes me go home and tell my family how adorable and heart warming a simple gesture a child has made, makes my day.
