Fall Foliage at the Park

We enjoyed beautiful fall foliage this year. But once the leaves fall, the raking begins! The Park is comprised of over 1,000 acres of land across three towns, so staff and community volunteers all pitch in to help keep the Park looking great. We are very grateful for the many hours of volunteer work provided by the Massachusetts Trial Court Community Service Program. Thankfully, leaves do not need to be removed from all areas, but it's still a tremendous task. Mulching mowers are used to return nutrients back to the soil, but some areas require raking by hand. We also have a bounty of acorns that are gathered to feed the pigs that reside seasonally at the Noah Brook Tavern fields in partnership with Codman Farms of Lincoln, Ma. Thanks to the NPS staff and volunteers who continue the fall clean up in November's colder weather! Check out our blog for more fall foliage pictures

Staff Spotlight

After 12 outstanding years of service at Minute Man National Historical Park, Leslie Obleschuk is moving on to new opportunities and adventures at Independence National Historical Park. Leslie served as the Chief of Interpretation and Education at Minute Man and is off to Independence as the new Public Affairs Officer. Leslie worked closely with the Friends on the Parker's Revenge project and will be missed by all. We wish Leslie the best in her new position at Independence National Historical Park!

Lou Sideris, former Chief of Interpretation and Park Planner at Minute Man (ret.), gave an informative lecture on the founding and ongoing development of Minute Man National Historical Park since its inception in 1959. As part of the 60th anniversary celebration of the Park, Lou shared his knowledge of the changes that have happened at Minute Man over the years and he delighted the crowd with historic photos of the Battle Road. The lecture was held at the Lexington Depot on Sept. 20th and was co-sponsored by the Friends of Minute Man National Park, Minute Man National Historical Park, and the Lexington Historical Society.
