The Road Not Taken
Jaffrey Civic Center, Jaffrey, NH
Artistic Interpretations of the Poetry of Robert Frost

The Road Not Taken, a fine art exhibit inspired by the poetry of Robert Frost, comes to the Jaffrey Civic Center in Jaffrey NH - October 23-November 20, 2021.

The presentation, designed by three Derry artists, Ingeborg V. Seaboyer, Judy Krassowski and Corinne Dodge, features approximately 30 works that reflect a variety of personal interpretations of the most famous as well as some of the “less traveled” works of one of America’s most inspiring poets, Robert Frost.

Images in pen and ink, watercolor, acrylics and oils are accompanied by a selected verse that inspired each individual work. An exhibit reference book provides additional information on the artists as well as upcoming exhibit venues.

The Jaffrey Civic Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit cultural facility founded in 1966. The mission of the Jaffrey Civic Center is to provide and sustain a public venue where citizens, residents, and visitors of the Monadnock region can pursue artistic, educational, and civic activities. The Center’s goal is to contribute to the cultural enrichment and enlightenment of the community. There is no admission fee to the Civic Center and all art shows and receptions are FREE and open to the public. The Center also hosts fee-based educational and other programs, as well as serving as the home to the Jaffrey Historical Society. The Jaffrey Civic Center, located at 40 Main Street in Jaffrey, is open Wednesday through Friday, 12pm-5pm and Saturday from 10am-2pm. For more information about other events and opportunities at the center please go to our website: jaffreyciviccenter.com.
Maintenance & Repair
Great Falls Discovery Center, Turners Falls, MA
Exploded View announces its upcoming installation during November, 2021 at The Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A, Turners Falls, MA

The dynamic poetry/performance/art collective, Exploded View, unveils new work created during the pandemic, “Bitter Sweet Feast,” and hosts a curated community art exhibit entitled “Maintenance & Repair,” during the month of November, beginning November 4, at The Great Falls Discovery Center in Turners Falls, MA.

In this second pandemic year, it feels essential to perform maintenance and repair individually, and in community. Exploded View members Trish Crapo of Leyden, Edite Cunhã and Nina Rossi of Turners Falls, and Samantha Wood of Greenfield addressed this topic for close to a year and a half during the pandemic by creating the new work, Bitter Sweet Feast. The multidisciplinary piece, which employs video, photography, and literary arts, will be on display at Great Falls Discovery Center for the month of November, beginning November 4.

In the curated group exhibit Maintenance & Repair, artwork from roughly two dozen area artists reflects on processes of mending, reconstruction, redemption, fixing, rebuilding, healing, and transformation. The work spans a variety of mediums including sculpture, drawing, painting, and fabric arts.

Rather than holding one large reception, three smaller events are planned to safely allow viewers to meet and talk with Exploded View members, as well as artists in the group exhibit. There will also be a post-Thanksgiving feast napping event. Social distancing and masks are required at all events.

Saturday November 13, Sunday November 21, and Sunday November 28
Gallery event from 1 to 3 p.m., with a large screen showing of Bitter Sweet Feast at 2 p.m., and performative readings by Exploded View. Light refreshments in the courtyard with artists from the gallery show.

Friday November 26
It’s about time for a Nap! Bring your mat and pillow into the Great Hall and enjoy restorative rest and repair with members of Exploded View. Spread out on the floor and enjoy an ambient soundscape. Social distancing and masks required. From 2:30 to 4 p.m. after the Go Green on Black Friday Walk.

Website Critique Group
Tuesday 12/7 5pm
If you’re an artist, you probably have some experience with the value of critique. A second, third, or tenth set of eyes on your work can provide valuable insight on how our work is perceived, aka how a viewer or audience member is connecting with what we create. In this Artist to Artist session, we’ll turn our powerful critiquing skills toward artist websites! We’ll examine the sites with an eye toward improvements that will facilitate a deeper connection with our work, a better user experience, and increased performance on the various platforms that we depend on to connect with people these days.

All Workshops:

$15 for nonmembers, $5 discounted registrations for members (we also offer a free registration option for those who are facing financial hardship.

All workshops are online events. Registration is required prior to the workshop in order to receive the Zoom link to join us.

Those who register will also receive a link to a video recording of the meeting in case they missed anything!

Dodge and Burn
A juried members' exhibition

Submission Deadline: December 2, 2021
Notifications: by December 16, 2021
Drop off period: January 6 - January 9, 2021
Exhibition run: January 20 - February 27, 2022

Juried by: Beth Kantrowitz, independent curator and art consultant, Co-Director of Drive-By Projects

"Dodging" and "burning" are the ways photographers in the darkroom either lighten or darken different areas of an image. This technique has since been modernized in digital editing software like Photoshop. The resulting effect is a heightened visual contrast.

For this juried exhibition, we’re looking for contrast within a single wall-hanging artwork. Contrast may be visual or thematic. Think light and dark, big and small, textured and smooth, etc.

This is a call for wall-hanging artwork. All media are welcome, including but not limited to painting, photography, digital, fine craft, and video. Artwork must not exceed 48” x 48”, including frame, and may not extend more than 12” from the wall.

This is a juried exhibition, meaning that the juror will consider all eligible submissions and select certain artworks to be shown at ArtsWorcester. All Artist Members may submit up to two pieces for consideration. The contrast must be evident within a single work, not between your two submissions.

Please contact alice@artsworcester.org with any questions about the call or submission requirements.
