November 2022

Dear Friend,

Close your eyes. Imagine you are sitting on a comfortable chair and reading the news in the Bolsa Chica Fall newsletter while sipping your hot seasonal drink in a beautiful BCLT mug. You take a deep inhale and breath in the brisk cool air as the migrating geese flying overhead break the morning silence with their loud honks. Across the yard the sages, sunflowers, grasses and other summer dormant plants are starting to wake up after the first rains of the cooler wet season. Ah, November must be here!

This isn't just some fantasy but could actually be your reality! Right now is the best time to convert your yard to beautiful CA native plants, the Fall BCLT newsletter is hitting mailboxes and we still have a few colorful mugs available. November is also the start of our beach cleanup season kicking off on Mon. Nov. 7th. Finally, please join us on Nov. 29th for GivingTuesday! Learn more about all of these below. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

If you like our e-newsletters please consider sharing it with your friends and family. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter to catch our weekly "Wildlife Wednesdays" and current events as we share with you what we see and find every week!

Giving Tuesday appeal

Join Us for GivingTuesday – the Global Day of Giving on Nov 29, 2022

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past 10 years, this idea has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. It is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

On November 29, 2022, people all around the world are coming together to tap into the power of human connection and strengthen communities and change our world. Will you be one of them?

The Bolsa Chica Land Trust will be participating in GivingTuesday and we need your help!

By joining the GivingTuesday movement, you’re proving that in times of uncertainty, generosity can bring the whole world together.

Here is how you can get ready to give:

  1. Mark your calendar [Add to calendar: Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar or iCal]
  2.  Give. On November 29, go to www.BCLandTrust.org/donation and give.
  3. Spread the word. Encourage your friends and family to join you in creating real impact on November 29 by sharing what our mission means to you and why you support our organization. Make sure to use hashtag #GivingTuesday and tag us so we can share!

Nov. Bird of the Month: Brants

Until a few years ago, these pretty little black geese were just brief visitors to Bolsa Chica during short migration rest stops. But soon after the successful restoration of eelgrass to the Tidal Basin, Brants became regular winter residents at Bolsa Chica because eelgrass is their primary food. Eelgrass habitat also creates a rich environment which supports many species of sea life.

Reminders When You Visit Bolsa Chica

Here are some things to remember during your visit:

  • Please stay on the trails. Not only could you disturb nesting birds, but snakes are often not far off the trails.
  • Enjoy the flowers, but please do not pick them.
  • Do not feed the animals.
  • Do not litter. Please pack out your trash, including food scraps.
  • No bikes.
  • No dogs.
  • No drones.
  • Enjoy being with nature!
  • If you see any BCLT Stewards working along the trail, say hi! We are happy to answer any questions.
