Returning and New Circle Members,
In 1909 Mrs. M.A. Lipscomb envisioned what would become Tallulah Falls School, the first beneficiary of The Circle when it formed in 1927. She "recognized the needs of children, set in to do something about them, and created a new beginning for them". Our current beneficiary, City of Refuge, is doing the same thing today in Atlanta that Mrs. Lipscomb aspired to over 100 years ago in the GA mountains.
I hope you will join us at our Fall General Meeting on November 13 to tour the City of Refuge facility and recognize our new members. It is an inspiring place of love and hope that reminds us why we come together to help GA children. To help raise money for City of Refuge, please plan to shop at Bags & Bubbles on November 9. There are lots of tempting purses to bid on. I will be a fun evening.
Thank you to Kimberly Johnson for leading our first fund raiser of the year, the golf tournament. It was a perfect day at Indian Hills Country Club, with beautiful weather and happy players. We are grateful for Kimberly's leadership and for the sponsors and volunteers who made the event possible. Save the date for next year: October 23, 2022 again at IHCC.
I also want to thank Susan Fulkerson, Katie Judd, Emily Lemmy, Rita Robb Furness, and Donna Aycock for the time and energy they devoted to new member recruitment. Rita provided an inspiring vison for connecting with potential members, Donna's backyard served as a beautiful backdrop for our new member event, while Susan, Katie, and Emily worked hard behind the scenes to make it all happen. Thank you all. New members are invited to attend the Fall General Meeting as guests of The Circle.
We also held two volunteer events at City of Refuge in October. We staffed Fall Festival, helping to monitor and run event activities such as pumpkin painting and a bounce house. Two weeks later we sponsored tables at Trunk or Treat, providing activities and candy for the little ghosts & goblins celebrating Halloween. The members who volunteered enjoyed their experience with the charity and the children it serves. Our next volunteer opportunity is in December, stay turned for details on our Cookie Decorating event.
Also be on the lookout for an invitation to a Holiday Social & Shopping experience. In lieu of a formal holiday party Lucy Dorris and I are hosting a get together on Saturday December 3 from 3-5pm. You may stop by to socialize, shop, or both. Lucy is now a rep for Park Lane Jewelry and the company has a generous fundraising program; 50 percent of the proceeds will come back to The Circle.
I know its been a busy month in the life of The Circle and that the Halloween to New Years period is busy for all of us. We will all have some downtown in January before gearing up for our April Gala. Thank you for everything you do to create new beginnings for at risk children, just like Mrs. Lipscomb all those years ago.
