Make It, Take It, Give It LearnShops Return!

Berea Kentucky Tourism is pleased to announce the return of Make It, Take It, Give It LearnShops during the 2021 holiday season! Three-day weekend offerings of classes will take place three times throughout November and December.

“Make It, Take It, Give It LearnShops offer a unique opportunity to come together with family or friends and share a creative experience," said Liz Todd, Berea Tourism Program Manager. "There’s a special joy that comes from the anticipation of the event, gathering stories to share, and making lifelong memories."

Dates for Make It, Take It, Give It LearnShops include: November 12-14, November 19-21, and December 10-12. Small class sizes will be hosted in venues throughout the city of Berea, led by distinguished local artists. Sessions include: woodworking, fiber arts, blacksmithing, cookie and cake decorating, and more!

"Whether you're looking to add a homemade touch to your gift-giving or longing to share a memorable experience with your loved ones this holiday season, we hope you'll join us for Make It, Take It, Give It LearnShops this year!" said Liz.

Many classes are youth friendly, providing opportunities for guests to register with their children or grandchildren and create together. Share with your friends, give as gifts to your family, and treat yourself to another great experience in Berea!

Berea Hosts USBR 21 Ribbon Cutting

The City of Berea was honored to host a media event and ribbon cutting on Monday, November 1st recognizing the completion of signage installed along United States Bike Route 21 through Kentucky. The Kentucky portion of USBR 21 stretches from the Cumberland Gap to Maysville and intersects USBR 76 here in Berea at Boone and Chestnut Streets.

Remarks were made by Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray, Madison County Judge Executive Reagan Taylor, Berea Mayor Bruce Fraley, Berea College President Lyle Roelofs, and Dr. John Fox of Friends of Boone Trace.
Tree Week Celebration in Berea

Berea Tourism celebrated Tree Week in early October with a variety of events throughout the city. Tree Week 2021 started as local student Landon Savia planted a beautiful dogwood tree with Mayor Fraley during the kick-off ceremony at Tillie Memorial Dog Park!

Friday Finds: Peruse the Cookbook Collecion

Just in time for the holidays, Hutchins Library invites you to view selections from the more than 400 historic and regional cookbooks that are housed in the Special Collections and Archives. Who knows? You might just find that perfect old (or new) recipe to serve at your upcoming fall and winter gatherings. Participants will receive free blank recipe cards for recording their finds (with proper bibliographic citation, of course). You are also welcome to take pictures with your phone.

“Friday Finds” private showings are by appointment only. Please register for this special showing before 11:00 the day of the tour.

Grow Your Own Mushrooms

Learn about which trees to cut for logs and when to cut them; methods of inoculation; placement and care; plus take a tour of the farm! All mushroom spawn is from Field and Forest Products and certified organic. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 15 PARTICIPANTS!

Teaching from the Berea Urban Farm
Sustainable Berea is offering a free educational series via Zoom for those new to home gardening. Click here for the Each 45-minute event will begin with a short lesson on a specific topic that will help guide beginners through their first growing season.

We will meet on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10 am to 10:45 am. There will be 15 minutes on the scheduled topic, 15 minutes about what is happening on the Berea Urban Farm, and 15 minutes for questions and sharing by participants. If you are a more advanced gardener, you are welcome to join us and share your wisdom!
