LAKER E-FFECT
Great Lake State Weekend

GLSW saw record attendance, an exciting hockey series with the University of Michigan (big win on Friday tough loss on Saturday ),  and lots of reunions and reminiscing.  Highlights included the recognition of  three incredible alumni   and the induction of five alumni athletes into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Check the LSSU Alumni Association Facebook page for more photos from the Hall of Fame inductions and the Alumni Awards banquet. The weekend also featured a wrestling reunion, a women's basketball brunch and a chilly Tailgate party complete with inflatables Mark your calendar for GLSW 2019, tentatively scheduled for October 11-12 with hockey vs. the University of Denver!

Pete Stauber
Minnesota's 8th Congressional District seat. Pete was a star player on LSSU's 1988 Championship hockey team. He completed his bachelors in criminal justice at LSSU and signed a multi-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings lost him to the Florida Panthers in the 1993 expansion draft. After playing in the minor leagues, he retired at the end of the 1992-93 season. Pete worked with the Duluth Police Department for 22 years before retiring in 2017 as Lieutenant. He served on the Hermantown City Council for eight years before he decided to run for Congress. Pete and his wife Jodi live in Hermantown with their four children Levi, Luke, Isaac and Addilynn. 

Todd Fritch
Todd Fritch '93, has been named Executive Vice President and Provost of State College of Florida, Sarasota-Manatee. 

Cameron Penny '14, Kalkaska, is the Director of Alumni Relations at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. He married Renee Schlak '14 on October 15, 2016. Renee is a
Came and Renee
Conservation Specialist with the Kalkaska Conservation District. In this role she works closely with land owners to manage forest and wildlife resources, assist in soil erosion control practices, coordinate the District's outreach and education programs, and manage their website and social media channels.

WRAP IT UP
 
LSSU fans, alumni, and friends can
display their Laker pride with the LSSU  affinity license plate. The Michigan Secretary of State's Office offers specialty fund-raising license plates, including state-supported universities. $25 from the sale of each license plate goes to Lake Superior State University. Proceeds fund the LSSU Alumni Legacy Award and various alumni programs and services.
 
FREE license plates are issued to all Premium members of the LSSU Alumni Association and new grads, JOIN NOW to get yours in the mail! Laker Fans living outside of Michigan can get a Laker affinity collector plate to show their Laker Pride! Email alumnirelations@lssu.edu to order an affinity plate.
 
Laker plates are available at any time - there is no need to wait until your plate renewal date. They are FREE for members of the LSSU Alumni Association or $35 for non-members.
