DONOR SPOTLIGHT
Beth Fuhr

Having lived in Paoli for almost 50 years, Beth Fuhr has a unique perspective about what makes the Great Valley great: community. It's the word that kept coming up as she talked about raising her daughters here, working and volunteering here, watching her grandkids grow up here, and choosing to downsize after retirement here. What Beth loves about Great Valley is the community, and that's what has her so excited about the new GVCO Center.

Beth fondly remembers her days "making friends with other parents, and kids making friends with other kids" at the ball fields in Malvern. Getting involved in the little league and the schools was the way Beth connected and created the village she wanted for her three daughters. She always told them, "everybody knows everybody in Malvern, so if you do something bad, I'm going to hear about it!" She immediately felt that sense of community when she first walked into the GVBL center in 2007 to watch her grandson play in the 1-2 basketball division. She loves the "energy" of GVBL (and later GVFL and now Crew!)... and watching a boys' game (followed by a girls game) and seeing all the other kids on the sidelines, dribbling a ball and watching their friends play. She has loved meeting other grandparents and parents and seeing the connectedness among the three generations. It reminds her of her days as a young mom, and showed her that GVCO is providing that "village" for her grandkids that she so heavily relied upon when raising her own girls here.

While Beth admired the sense of warmth and connection at GVBL, it was hearing about the extensive plans and programming that the new Center will provide that made her excited to donate to the capital campaign. She is thrilled to be supporting Great Valley's future generations with the awareness programming, senior offerings, new sports programming and the potential for so many other community-related offerings that made her a believer. She wants to be part of making a better future for Great Valley. This is Beth's home, the friends she has made here have "become [her] family" and she is proud to add her name to the list of GVCO supporters.

Beth is so enthusiastic about GVCO's plans that she has volunteered to be part of GVCO's newly-formed Senior Committee. "The new center will bring the Great Valley community together...and I am happy to be part of that community-building energy. And I can't wait to get involved!" Thanks to Beth for being a part of our loyal and generous Grandparent Gang!

COMMUNITY CORNER

All 4 year colleges in the U.S. accept both the SAT and ACT, and none of them prefer one test over the other.
Since students have the choice of which test they submit, they should take whichever test they are better at.

GVCO Implements a Board of Directors

In January 2017 the GVCO Board of Directors unanimously voted to reorganize our GVCO Board. The strategic decision was to move away from a "working board", which was how we had operated since the inception of the organization in 2001. It was determined that GVCO would be best served by taking a more traditional approach as we continue to grow the organizations programming and facilities. The focus for our GVCO Board will be on its fiduciary responsibility of managing our nonprofit with respect to philosophy, funding, compliance and staffing.

GVCO will continue to be "run" and advised by community volunteers, serving on our Advisory Board, Program Boards, as coaches and on numerous committees. GVCO's mission will continue to be a volunteer organization overseen by the community.

Please go to our Board of Directors Bio Page to learn more.

CARING HANDS FOUNDATION
New Leadership for Caring Hands in 2017-2018.

The Great Valley Caring Hands was created for the purpose of raising funds for those persons, families, or organizations in our community who have suffered some catastrophic event. Caring Hands is a student-run community outreach program. We were able to form a new leadership group for the 2017-2018 year and they have taken over!  Caring Hands volunteers were involved in and assisted with several local events including Steps4Hope 5k Run/Walk and Duane Milne's 50+ Expo. The group was able to raise money through fundraisers including GVHS Patriot's Day, face painting at GVFL's Patriots' Day and a bake sale at the GVBL Picture Day!  Follow Caring Hands News and Updates for future events.
