November 10, 2023

Greetings Bradley Beach-

You may feel a bit inundated with messages this week- 3 communications!  We felt this necessary so that people were aware of the events/ ceremonies this week and into the weekend- so you could plan accordingly (Vigil Thursday- Riley Park, Veteran’s Day Saturday- Riley Park, Mayors Wellness Walk Sunday- Promenade).  After this newsletter, we will go to a twice monthly schedule until the Spring, when activities pick back up.

Our thoughts and prayers continue for Israel, along with our Bradley Beach Jewish Community.  Rabbi Maury Kelman and the Congregation Agudath Achim held a Vigil Thursday night, to raise the issues of the hostages, including many Americans, and to say Never Again Is Now.  Thank you to those who supported this event.

Election Day was Tuesday, Bradley Beach turnout was “brisk”, given it was an “off-off” year (no local, federal or national contests).  Congratulations to our State Assembly and Senate candidates- win or lose- you “stepped into the arena” as Teddy Roosevelt once famously said.

THIS WEEKEND- SATURDAY- VETERANS DAY CEREMONY:

An important annual ceremony is this Saturday at 11:00 AM at Riley Park.  This year our Veteran Honoree is Former Army Captain David Broadbent.  Also, welcome back to Officer Rafiq Pickett- just back from a deployment.  We are all very proud of you!

Please join us and support and honor our Veterans.

THIS SUNDAY: MAYOR’S WELLNESS WALK- FINAL 2023 WALK - PLEASE JOIN US!

This Sunday, November 12th is our final 2023 Wellness Walk. We will start at the 5th Avenue Gazebo at 10:00 AM. We’ll go about 1.7 miles. Should be fun- looks like the weather will be a bit “brisk”; but I am sure the beach will be beautiful!

On the Infrastructure front:

1.The Lake Terrace Park renovation is beginning- a 2-month project

2.We met on the Sylvan Lake Natural Shoreline joint Bradley Beach: Avon Project last week in Avon.

1.We are completing the final remediation wipe down, disinfection, and minor renovations for the Biase Building.  Back in soon!

2.We are looking forward to the planning grant for the old pump-house with the intent of housing the Historical Society there.

Back to Sylvan Lake and an infrastructure issue… We have an issue that came up in the last few days that has caused lake water levels to drop. It appears that the timber bulkhead at the East end of the lake is rotting; and water is flowing around it. Our DPW team is currently using sandbags to slow down the flow, but a temporary cofferdam will need to be erected. This work can begin next week. The next step will be to identify engineering firms to draft concept plans for consideration, involve the DEP to obtain an emergency permit, and then replace the entire structure. We will continue to keep you informed on the progress.

The Bradley Beach 2024 Reassessment Report is out and on the website.  Last year, the percentage increase in home values was over 19%.  In 2024, the estimate is a 7.91% increase.  We have cooled down a bit; but our value is up by over $165 million.

The Bradley Food Pantry on the Corner of Fourth Avenue and Hammond is one of the most important enterprises in Bradley Beach.  We should all find a way to support eliminating food insecurity in our society.  Our Police Department and Office of Emergency donated to the Pantry this week- frozen hamburgers and buns left from the National Night Out- what better use!

This year's Halloween celebration was great.  The “Bradley Boo”- trick or treating around Main Street, the “trunk or treat” event in the Municipal Parking Lot; and the Halloween Parade – great fun.  Thanks to the Tourism and Recreation Department, The Police Department, and the Fire Department for their leadership!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.  We have a lot to be thankful for in Bradley Beach!  Don’t forget the Bonfire the Friday after Thanksgiving and the Tree Lighting on Saturday!

With the holidays quickly approaching we have many exciting things planned for the coming months at the Rec Center and all over Bradley Beach so make sure to check the website for updates! Events are in the works- details are in the newsletter and the website.

We will continue to focus on Service and Progress as a Municipal Team.

Thanks, and see you around town.  Shalom.
