If it's been awhile since you've tended to your makeup collection, now's your official reminder.Can't remember what to keep and what to toss? Here's a quick rundown on shelf lives for popular items:

Unopened, well formulated cosmetics (both liquid and powder) can remain stable for up to two years (Jane Iredale falls into this category).
Jane Iredale's official recommendation is a shelf life of 24 months for all her mineral based products, both liquid, powder and pencil.
All other Jane Iredale cosmetics, except D20,Balance and POMMISST have a shelf life of 12 months.
Mascara -- toss after three months
Lipstick/Gloss -- toss after two years
Generic drugstore cosmetics -- toss after three to six months
