Please also purchase your tickets now for the College of Visual and Performing Arts signature event on Saturday, September 28, Arts by George! A variety of musical ensembles from the Dewberry School of Music will be showcased at this amazing CVPA arts event!
We hope you will join us for our Dewberry School of Music Fall 2024 Concert Series featuring our incredibly talented music students in a wide variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles. We are thrilled to present our Mason Concert Bands with U.S. Army "Pershing's Own" on Tuesday, October 1. We are eagerly anticipating our Mason Symphony Orchestra's performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 on Monday October 7.

Join us for a spectacular opening of our 2024 Fall Concert season with A Grand Piano Celebration on Sunday, September 22 at 3 p.m. in Mason's Center for the Arts. This concert honors Mason's All-Steinway School. Outstanding student and faculty artists of the Reva and Sid Dewberry Family School of Music at George Mason University will be on stage to display their marvelous talents. The concert will be led by Dr. Linda Apple Monson, International Steinway Artist and Director of the Dewberry School of Music. Additional piano faculty artists include Dr. Anna Balakerskaia, Dr. John Healey, and Dr. Eunae Ko Han. Exciting and dramatic solo piano, duo-piano works, and collaborative piano works will be performed. Mason's faculty piano ensemble (8 hands) will also be showcased!
Mason faculty artists Prof. Jennifer Casey Cabot (soprano), Dr. Caroline Steiger (horn), and Dr. Linda Monson (piano) will be featured in a beautiful work by Dr. Andrea Reinkemeyer, Mason's Director of Composition. Additional composers showcased in the Grand Piano Celebration concert include Schubert, Chopin, Richard Strauss, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff, daFalla, Ginastera, Kapustin, and more!
A post-concert reception follows in the Center for the Arts lobby! Meet the marvelous performers and mingle with our Mason Music Family!

Save the date for the annual ARTS by George! on Saturday, September 28, 2024! This annual benefit event supports student scholarships for George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Mason Community Arts Academy, Green Machine Ensembles, and the Great Performances at Mason season at the Center for the Arts. ARTS by George! has raised more than $4.1 million since it began in 2006. The evening begins by showcasing the remarkable talents of Mason Arts students throughout our studio and performance spaces while enjoying a buffet dinner and culminates with an exciting performance by Lea Salonga in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall, followed by a dessert reception and champagne toast onstage with the artist.

Join the Mason Bands for an unforgettable evening as we kick off the 2024-25 performance season with a spectacular concert! The Mason Symphonic Band and Mason Wind Symphony are proud to present their inaugural concert, featuring a special guest—the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own."
The Mason Bands' featured repertoire includes Viet Cuong, a Vietnamese-American composer’s “Sound and Smoke,” William Schuman’s transcription of Charles Ives’ “Variations on America” in celebration of his 150th birthday, and Canadian composer Jonathan Dagenais’ “Mouvement Frénétique.
This concert marks the second appearance of the United States Army Band in collaboration with the Mason Band program. The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" is one of America's most prestigious and distinguished military ensembles. The concert ends with the Mason Bands and the United States Army Band performing side-by-side as an encore.

The Mason Symphony Orchestra proudly invites you to their first concert of the Fall 2024 season! Conducted by Dr. Soo Han and Michael Stern, Tchaikovsky's legendary Symphony No. 5 stands alone as the sole centerpiece of the evening, depicting humankind's futile struggle with and ultimate triumph over fate. We hope you'll join us for an incredible performance!
This performance will take place in the George Mason University Center for the Arts Concert Hall on Monday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available online and at the door. Additional information and tickets are available at music.calendar.gmu.edu.

Dr. Andrea Reinkemeyer wins American Prize for Major Choral work "The Thaw" | |
Dr. Andrea Reinkemeyer has been awarded the American Prize in Composition for her piece The Thaw, a work for Soprano, Tenor, Mixed Choir, and Wind Ensemble. The Thaw is based on text from Artis Henderson and "draws upon imagery from Oregon's rich, natural beauty to explore themes of love, loss and healing."
Dr. Reinkemeyer is the Director of Composition at the Dewberry School of Music and the Director of the New Sound Collective, George Mason's ensemble that specializes in the performance of music by living composers.

High School Flute Students

Calling All High School Flutists!
Join us for the Senior Regional Orchestra (SRO) Flute Audition Masterclass with George Mason University Flute Professors Dr. Laura Kaufman Mowry and Professor TJ Wible. Students will learn how to avoid common mistakes, hear the excerpts demonstrated, perform with confidence under pressure and learn what makes an audition stand out. Following the Masterclass, an optional mock audition will be offered to participants who wish to receive feedback on the audition excerpts.
