Join us for a spectacular opening of our 2024 Fall Concert season with A Grand Piano Celebration on Sunday, September 22 at 3 p.m. in Mason's Center for the Arts. This concert honors Mason's All-Steinway School. Outstanding student and faculty artists of the Reva and Sid Dewberry Family School of Music at George Mason University will be on stage to display their marvelous talents. The concert will be led by Dr. Linda Apple Monson, International Steinway Artist and Director of the Dewberry School of Music. Additional piano faculty artists include Dr. Anna Balakerskaia, Dr. John Healey, and Dr. Eunae Ko Han. Exciting and dramatic solo piano, duo-piano works, and collaborative piano works will be performed. Mason's faculty piano ensemble (8 hands) will also be showcased!
Mason faculty artists Prof. Jennifer Casey Cabot (soprano), Dr. Caroline Steiger (horn), and Dr. Linda Monson (piano) will be featured in a beautiful work by Dr. Andrea Reinkemeyer, Mason's Director of Composition. Additional composers showcased in the Grand Piano Celebration concert include Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, daFalla, Ginastera, Piazzolla, and more!

Save the date for the annual ARTS by George! on Saturday, September 28, 2024! This annual benefit event supports student scholarships for George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Mason Community Arts Academy, Green Machine Ensembles, and the Great Performances at Mason season at the Center for the Arts. ARTS by George! has raised more than $4.1 million since it began in 2006. The evening begins by showcasing the remarkable talents of Mason Arts students throughout our studio and performance spaces while enjoying a buffet dinner and culminates with an exciting performance by Lea Salonga in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall, followed by a dessert reception and champagne toast onstage with the artist.

Join the Mason Bands for an unforgettable evening as we kick off the 2024-25 performance season with a spectacular concert! The Mason Symphonic Band and Mason Wind Symphony are proud to present their inaugural concert, featuring a special guest—the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own."
The Mason Bands' featured repertoire includes Viet Cuong, a Vietnamese-American composer’s “Sound and Smoke,” William Schuman’s transcription of Charles Ives’ “Variations on America” in celebration of his 150th birthday, and Canadian composer Jonathan Dagenais’ “Mouvement Frénétique.
This concert marks the second appearance of the United States Army Band in collaboration with the Mason Band program. The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" is one of America's most prestigious and distinguished military ensembles. The concert ends with the Mason Bands and the United States Army Band performing side-by-side as an encore.

George Mason University Wind Symphony and School of Dance has been selected as National Finalist for the Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music for our performance of “Come Sunday” by Omar Thomas. Among the many contests of The American Prize, the Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music is unique. It recognizes and rewards the best performances of American music by ensembles and individual artists worldwide, based on submitted recordings. Applications are accepted from professional, college/university, community and high school age solo artists, chamber ensembles or conducted ensembles, competing in separate divisions, and from composers with excellent recordings of their works. | |
Green Machine Shines at Mason Korea
10 Year Anniversary Celebration in South Korea

Doc Nix & The Green Machine along with George Mason administrators, faculty, staff, students traveled to South Korea June 10-14 to help Mason Korea commemorate its first decade with a week of festivities. Green Machine celebrated this year's Mason Korea's graduates and performed at the DMZ Open Festival and the Acoustic Music Festival on Nami Island. Green Machine had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Mason Korea Student Bands Sketch and Cresent in honor of the 10 year anniversary of Mason Korea. | |
George Mason Clarinet Choir performs in International Clarinet Association in Ireland | |
The George Mason University Clarinet Choir just returned from a trip to Dublin, Ireland where they had the honor of performing for the International Clarinet Association's 2024 ClarinetFest. The ensemble was chosen through a competitive audition process, and their program focused on music by American composers. The featured soloist was Teddy Dunn, a senior in the BME program, who performed his own arrangement of Blues from "An American in Paris" by Michelle Magnani. In addition, Dr. Kathleen Mulcahy, Director of Woodwinds and Associate Professor of Clarinet, was invited to perform the world premiere of "Phosphenes for Clarinet and Fixed Media" by Dr. Robert Gillam, Director of Music Technology. | |

Kudos to Mason Music Faculty Professors Tony Maiello and June Huang who presented at the Texas Orchestra Directors Association Convention in June.
Professor Maiello presented two sessions: Conducting - A Hands On Approach and Conducting Nuances - Little Things Mean a Lot. Professor Huang presented three sessions: Effective Practice Techniques, Body Wellness for String Players, and Teaching Sight-Reading Skills.

Jacob Lash awarded Outstanding Arts Educator | |
Congratulations to Jacob Lash for earning the 2024 Kathleen K. Seefeldt Award for Outstanding Arts Educator. Jacob Lash holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music Education, both from George Mason University. He is a full time-time music teacher with Prince William County Schools, the artistic director of Gainesville Community Choir and the Director of the St. Patrick Orthodox Church Choir. We acknowledge him for his dedication to the arts in Prince William County and beyond, and we commend him for impacting the lives of may through outstanding music education.
