Seasonal Attire

On Tuesday, October 31, we encourage students and staff to celebrate the season by wearing seasonal attire. Clothing featuring jack o' lanterns, spiders, bats, black cats, etc., is encouraged! Please note that students are not permitted to wear costumes to school.

News from the Library

The pre-schoolers visited the library again this week. We read the story "Creepy Carrots" and then each student got to make their own Creepy Carrot to take home!

From the Technology Director

We have been talking about internet safety here at Northwood School and I wanted to share a resource with all families. Netsmartz is a web site devoted to helping families navigate the difficult online world. With our 6th-8th graders being allowed to take computers home, as well as almost every student currently having access to some type of personal computing device, I thought it was very important to step up the game on our end to make sure families have the resources they need.

Netsmartz.org as well as netsmartzkids.org have a great deal of info to help families keep their children safe online. While no method will be perfect, the best thing we can do is to communicate with each other and make sure our children feel safe talking to a trusted adult about anything they encounter online.

If you go to the school website and go to the Technology Page, you will see a video at the bottom of the screen. This is a presentation I did last year for the 6th-8th graders. Take a look and I apologize for the bad audio.

Kindergarten News

This week during our month long safety unit we welcomed two officers from the police department. Officer Ben and Officer Nick came to talk to the kindergarteners about Halloween safety. It was very exciting to see all of the tools police officers use to keep the community safe. We really liked the blue lights and siren on the police truck! Thank you for teaching us, and always keeping us safe.
