NH-SAS Administration is Here!

What is it?

During the month of May, NWS students are participating in the New Hampshire Statewide Assessment System Program, and a few end of the year assessments. New Hampshire school districts and public charter schools are required by state law (RSA 193-C) and federal accountability laws (Every Student Succeeds Act) to assess students using a standardized assessment. Several assessments, outlined below, are utilized in order to comply with these requirements.

Statewide assessments are an important part of a student’s core educational program. They:

  • Are an evaluation of student mastery of content and skills in various academic areas
  • Serve as one tool for measuring the degree to which students are on track to graduate high school and are college and career ready
  • Help inform future instruction in the classroom for all levels of learners

Along with student work on classroom assignments, projects, essays and local assessments, state assessment results give teachers, parents, and the community important information about where students are on their path toward academic success.

What does this mean for Northwood School?

During the month of May, Northwood School students will participate in the NH-SAS, the general statewide assessment for English language arts (ELA), mathematics and science, in the following grades and content areas:

  • Grades 3-8 students are assessed in English Language Arts and Mathematics, and
  • Grades 5 and 8 students are also assessed in Science

Tips for taking the NH-SAS Assessment:

The following list is an example of strategies to use for most state and standardized tests of:

  1. Read the question thoroughly and more than once.
  2. Read the question first before making an answer choice.
  3. Consider ALL choices before marking or stating your final answer.
  4. Highlight key points in long questions and passages of reading.
  5. Carefully read the introductory passages for clues to answers.
  6. Get plenty of sleep the night before the assessment!

Take a deep breath, relax, and do the best you can! Good luck and have a great weekend!

Book Fair

Our school book fair is next week!

Classes will have opportunities to shop during their regularly scheduled library times.

Although using cash is the tried and true method for generations of students, many families find it more convenient to set up e-wallet for their young shoppers.

Use the QR code below to find our school’s book fair page, and set up e-wallets for students.
