Reminder: NRH Budget Roadshow

Don't forget, there are two more Budget Roadshows coming up for the community to learn about the city's proposed budget and tax rate, ask questions and provide input. The roadshow is a casual come and go event. We hope you will stop by:

Saturday, Aug. 17 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at PJ’s Coffee, 5555 Rufe Snow Dr., #100

Thursday, Aug. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at False Idol Brewing, 7924 Maplewood Ave.

Can't make it? Visit www.nrhtx.com/budget to review the proposed budget and then submit your comments online or at an upcoming public hearing. The public hearings are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 and Monday, Sept. 9 during the City Council meeting at City Hall. Please note, there will not be a public hearing on Sept. 5 as indicated in our last newsletter. It has been rescheduled to Sept. 9.

Council Meeting Highlights

Following are highlights from this week's City Council Meeting. For more meeting details and to watch the meeting video, visit www.nrhtx.com/agendas.

Planning & Zoning

• The City Council approved two requests for the construction of a permanent accessory building exceeding the standard size and height limits. One will be built on property located on Little Ranch Road and the other on Meadow Creek Road. Both properties are larger than one acre in size and zoned Residential Estate.

• Council also approved a request to replat two acres on Timber Drive to create two residential lots.

Budget & Tax Rate

• The City Council approved revisions to the Fiscal Year 2023 – 2024 Budget, including funding 7 projects with cash reserves, instead of issuing debt for the projects.

• Council scheduled public hearings on the proposed FY 2024-2025 budget and tax rate for Aug. 26 and Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall. They will also vote to adopt a budget and tax rate at the Sept. 9 meeting. The Council has proposed a property tax rate of $0.489389 per $100 of property value, which is the same as the current tax rate and just below the No New Revenue Tax Rate. The proposed budget is available to review on the city’s website at www.nrhtx.com/budget.

Other Items

• A transfer of $45,000 in equipment from the North Texas Anti-Gang Center Project to the City of NRH was approved by the Council.

• A resolution was passed requesting that the Texas Legislature amend the Texas Housing Finance Corporations Act. This would prevent a housing finance corporation from registering a property as tax exempt without the approval of the city where the property is located.

School Bus

Browning Drive Closure

As part of an ongoing sanitary sewer construction project, Browning Drive is closed just west of Wuliger Way through Sept. 7. Neighborhoods located off of Browning between Wuliger Way and 377 will need to enter and exit Browning from 377. There will be no access from Iron Horse Boulevard. This closure is necessary for the safety of workers and motorists while an approximately 35-foot deep hole in the street is excavated to construct a sanitary sewer manhole. We apologize for any inconvenience. Questions can be directed to NRH Public Works at 817-427-6400 or by emailing nrhpw@nrhtx.com.
