Note from the Principal

January 15, 2024

Welcome North Families,

Our 7th and 8th grade families likely remember a newsletter message last school year about the number of incidences of students using racially charged language at North.  I am pleased to say our behavior data shows these incidents have greatly decreased this school year, and while we strive to ensure this type of behavior never happens at North and have yet to achieve that target, we are celebrating our students' improvement.

In reflecting on this positive change, we acknowledged the strong partnership with our families as key.  When reminders are sent home in the newsletter for families to talk to their students about important topics, we know we can count on our families at North to support their students’ positive behavior at school.  Thank you!  We all want great things for your students, and when we work together towards that end, we can make great strides.

To that end, please continue to talk to your students about racially charged language, how it is out of bounds at school, and the consequences it could have, including how it makes our peers feel.  Talk to your children about how they should never be silent bystanders when they hear this type of language, and discuss the correct pathway to report it and show care for those who are victims of it.  Menomonee Falls is an amazing community, and together we can ensure that every student is safe to come to school free to focus on their learning.

We have had some winter-like weather, and it never surprises the staff at North how some middle school students appear to be allergic to their jackets and winter hats. We will be going outside for recess unless temperatures feels like below 20. Please help in reminding your student to wear their jacket, winter hat, and gloves to school.
