Note from the Principal

February 15, 2024

Welcome North Families,

Wow, there are a lot of amazing things going on at North, from celebrating students with Perfect Attendance to those who made the High Honor Roll to students whose work will be displayed at the Regional and State Art Shows, and we can’t forget the Winter School Dance. I hope you see the many positive happenings highlighted in this newsletter.

One of the great things happening that I want to highlight for our families is the learning that happened this week in during our STAR time. We pressed the pause button on our typical STAR activities and had students engage in learning designed by our Library Media Specialist, Ms. Charlier, about being a digital citizen. Students had the opportunity to give feedback on what aspects of being a digital citizen they wanted to learn more about, and lessons were designed to help students grow their understanding and skills that affect something that is a big part of their lives. Lessons covered topics such as the health impacts of screen time, understanding their digital footprint, learning how personal data is used online, and how to protect one’s privacy and artificial intelligence.

In addition to the student lessons, Ms. Charlier assembled Family Resources on the topic of digital citizenship. We encourage you to explore these resources and reinforce this learning at home.

Digital Citizenship - Family Resources

Thank you for partnering with us to educate and celebrate your students.

What is your connection to the Falls community?

I live in the Falls now.

Why did you decide to live in the Falls?

I like the idea of living where I teach. Being here gives me a greater pulse on the community in which I work, and a better understanding of the families which I serve. I also like the four minute commute!

Why did you decide to work in the Falls?

I am originally from Mt. Pleasant, and wanted to teach in the school district I student taught and grew up in (Racine Unified). After a year of long term sub jobs, and no social studies openings in the district for the upcoming year, I sent out a general interest application to about 20 districts across Southeast Wisconsin. I'm not going to lie... the only time I had ever heard of Menomonee Falls in my life at that point (1996) was in advertisements for the Ernie Von Schledorn car dealership. A few weeks later, I got a call for an interview in the Falls. After a second interview with the superintendent, I was hired to teach 8th grade social studies at North. I've had opportunities to move to other districts, but I have no interest in that. Home is what you make it, and North in Menomonee Falls is my home.

Anything you would like to share about your family in Menomonee Falls?

I've lived in the Falls since 2003. My kids have been a part of our school district from 4K to the present - one at North and one at MFHS. My wife teaches at Valley View.
