Letter from Mayor Chris Fiore
Good day all!
We are coming off the month of May and heading into the summer -- the best time of the year (IMHO) to enjoy life in North Haven. Hopefully the battery powered leaf blowers will help insure your right of quiet enjoyment!
The bike drive collected over 100 bikes for the LI Bike Coop.....thanks so much for participating!
Our Board meeting at the end of last month saw Barbara Clarke (of North Haven Manor) appointed to the Architectural Review Board as an official alternate. David Sherwood, our ARB Chair for the past dozen years will be relocating out of N. Haven this summer. We will announce new leadership shortly. David has tirelessly led the ARB (every board member volunteers their time and energy to help make North Haven the fabulous place it is).....we owe a huge vote of thanks to David for the hundreds of meetings he has chaired, and the positive effect he and his board have had on the village.
We hired Carlos Paredes as our highway and landscape manager. Carlos is a resident of N. Haven and has acted as maintenance manager for the West Banks HOA for the past few years. He has a business that services landscape, irrigation and plowing/sanding. (Carlos was our snowplow man this past winter.) He is busy catching up on lawn and shrubbery maintenance as we speak. This year's leaf pickup fee has been lowered substantially from the past -- we were able to reduce the annual fee to $89 -- a 62% reduction. Carlos will handle this assignment as well. Welcome Carlos!
If you see a need for Carlos' attention, call our Clerk, Beth Kamper, in the Village Office. Same goes for code enforcement. Call the office: (631) 725-1378 if the need arises.
We the Board voted for a follow up testing regimen for water quality -- Dr. Chris Gobler of SBU recapped the results of his tests this past year and now has a green light to follow up in all our creeks and ponds. We authorized dollars taking our total investment to $55,000 this year for his team to analyze our water and report back to us.
I never knew how many Parrotheads could assemble in one place! The dedication of the park bench by the club for Jimmy Buffett Day on May 18th was fun and quite touching. (They knew all the words to all the songs)! Jimmy will be sorely missed.
That should do it for now -- enjoy yourselves and stay safe this summer!
Chris
