Local Nonprofits Receive Nearly $500,000 in Competitive Grant Awards

From purchasing a new bookmobile, to helping foster youth attain their driver's licenses, 23 discretionary and Greenlight GrantsSM totaling $496,975 recently were awarded by The Dayton Foundation to support local nonprofits in addressing emerging needs and opportunities in the region. These grants, made possible thanks to individuals who have established unrestricted or lightly restricted charitable funds, promoted efforts in the arts and culture, health, education, human services, philanthropy and other community-building endeavors.

Events Help Nonprofit Organizations, Community Leaders Make "Connections"

On April 24, representatives from local nonprofit organizations attended Nonprofit Connections Live, an interactive, two-hour session, sponsored by The Dayton Foundation. The event offered nonprofit professionals the opportunity to meet the Foundation's Community Engagement staff, learn about available grant opportunities and more. On May 8, community and civic leaders gathered for the Miami Valley Age-Friendly Summit, sponsored by AARP Ohio, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and The Dayton Foundation. Keynote speaker Joe Morgan, former CEO of Standard Register, kicked off the event, followed by various presenters who covered age-friendly topics, including Del Mar Encore Senior Fellow Leigh Sempeles, JD, and Fellow Donna Kastner. Grant Opportunity - Cones for a Cause

The Cones for a Cause Fund, a component fund of The Dayton Foundation, is seeking grant applications from area nonprofits that provide the greatest impact to at-risk groups and individuals lacking access to basic needs and social services. Cones for a Cause, a program initiated by Old Scratch Pizza at its local restaurants, encourages guests who enjoy free ice cream cones to make a donation. To date, more than $231,000 has been awarded to 125 local nonprofits through Cones for a Cause.

Local Nonprofit Looks to Increase Access to Skin Cancer Treatment Through Collaborations

Did you know that more than five million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year, making it America’s most common cancer?
