Partnership Grant Spotlight
Using an Essex Heritage grant, volunteers at the
Essex Shipbuilding Museum
restored the "Effie," a 15-foot, hands-on replica of the state's official sailing vessel, the Essex-built 1894 Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey. The beloved model serves as the centerpiece of the visitor and school field trip programs offered by the museum, opening a gateway to discussions about sailing vessel design, Arctic exploration, immigration and prominent role of Essex-built vessels in the sail-powered era of commercial fishing.
