With a focus on preserving large lived-in landscapes like the heritage area, over 100 attendees heard from a blue-ribbon roster of experts who discusses partnership strategies for combating pervasive impacts such as climate change and over-development. The daylong symposium was organized by Essex Heritage and hosted by the PEM/Peabody Essex Museum. Stay tuned: Essex Heritage is preparing a summary of the symposium's key points and helpful resources.
Partnership Grant Spotlight

Using an Essex Heritage grant, volunteers at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum restored the "Effie," a 15-foot, hands-on replica of the state's official sailing vessel, the Essex-built 1894 Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey. The beloved model serves as the centerpiece of the visitor and school field trip programs offered by the museum, opening a gateway to discussions about sailing vessel design, Arctic exploration, immigration and prominent role of Essex-built vessels in the sail-powered era of commercial fishing.
