Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
USA_dog.jpg
The 4th of July is right around the corner and since we have had so much rain, we are not experiencing any burn bans. However, while folks who live out in the county may already be shooting off fireworks, we want to remind those who live inside the city limits that fireworks are only permitted to be used on July 4th between 2pm and 11pm. The only other day of the year that fireworks can be used inside the city limits is on New Years Eve. Our ordinances also require that anyone under 17 be supervised by an adult when using fireworks. Call Nixa Police at 417-582-1030 to report someone violating the fireworks ordinances.

Our Police Department and Animal Control posted a video to our Facebook page which includes more fireworks safety tips and some advice on how to calm your dog during the holiday if they are frightened by fireworks.
The Baffler
This perplexing puzzle will keep you bewildered, befuddled, and bemused.

Q: What do you call a bunch of dolls waiting in line for grilled meat?

The answer to The Baffler is at the bottom of the newsletter.
Working For You
MoDOT projects will improve highways through Nixa, construction will impact traffic
MoDOT logo
You may have already noticed work being done by telephone and gas companies digging along Highway 14 between 160 and Nicholas Road as they move their utilities out of the way for the upcoming widening of Highway 14 to five lanes. Construction on 14 is scheduled to get underway later in the year. Electric power poles will also be moved back along Highway 14 from Main Street to Nicholas Road to prepare for the road widening being overseen by MoDOT.

But it is actually projects along 160 which will be impacting Nixa traffic first. A resurfacing project along 160 will stretch from Plainview Road in Springfield all the way to Kimberling City. There will also be intersection improvements being made in partnership with the City of Nixa at the intersections of 160 & Tracker and at 160 & Northview. There will be several other improvements along 160 as part of these projects set to begin by late July and may include some road closures. Read much more detail about the Highway 160 improvements at the MoDOT website.

Nixa residents who use Highway 65 will also be impacted by road closures as MoDOT is simultaneously finishing the final phase of the 65 Rebuild project. Read much more about Interstate 65 project at the MoDOT website.

Once MoDOT sets the construction schedule for the widening of Highway 14, we will also share that information with you. Stay tuned and be sure to sign up for traffic alerts so you won't get caught by surprise during any road closures.

Thank you for your patience during all these projects, we are grateful that MoDOT and the State of Missouri are investing in improving key highways in Christian County!

Energy Advisor: Learn where your energy dollars are going
Got energy smarts Get started with Energy Advisor
As the summer heats up, appliances like your air conditioner and refrigerator are working harder to keep your home cool. That means you're using more electricity than during the cooler spring months.

Nixa Utilities provides our customers with an "Energy Advisor," which you can access through our website to help predict your energy consumption, anticipate utility costs, and see how energy conservation tips can help you save money!
Nixa improves its online permit application process!
Are you planning to build or install a fence, deck, pool, shed, storm shelter, or sign? You can now submit your permit application for any of these projects without any paperwork!

For the time being, all other permit applications will still require some paperwork and may require a visit to City Hall. We are continuing to work to streamline the online permit application processes.

Jason Ramos
Jason Ramos has been with the City of Nixa since 2005. He started in the Utilities Office as a meter reader and locator and has worked in the wastewater collection department for the last ten years. He was promoted to the Lead Utility Worker for that department in 2016.

Jason and Maria, his wife, live in Sparta where they raised one son and two daughters. He is happiest on the water fishing or out in the woods hunting. Past generations might have described him as a horse trader but buying low and selling to make a profit is one of his hobbies.

Jason is an excellent welder and has his Wastewater ‘C’ License and Water ‘C’ License. He can operate all of the vehicles and equipment the City owns. He is very passionate about his work keeping the wastewater collection system flowing efficiently. For the last 9 years he and the collection crew have been instrumental in the reduction of excess groundwater and surface water (Infiltration and Inflow, a.k.a. "I&I") getting into the collection system which overloads the capacities of pipes and pumps. Also, his crew keeps 16 pump stations and generators in good operating condition.
