Dear neighbour

We wanted to thank you for electing us as your local councillors in the May council election! We are already working to represent you. Now, and for the next 4 years. Please get in touch if we can help in anyway.

Since the election on May 5th we have been delighted to work with local residents on many issues. Thus far we have been involved in a wide range of local issues.

Working with local police

We have met with your dedicated Nine Elms Police Sgt Chamberlain to discuss crime and anti-social behaviour in Nine Elms, and discuss the creation of a residents panel.

Crime is currently very low in our area. But worries have been expressed about “imported crime” once the new Battersea Power Station shopping centre opens in late September.

Shoplifting and bag snatchers will come into Nine Elms drawn by the vibrant new retail emporiums soon to open. We must ALL be vigilant against this potential addition to our crime statistics.

Tackling Graffiti in Nine Elms

You reported it. And we dealt with it. Graffiti in Nine Elms was successfully removed after our intervention and we have got the Council waste collection teams to empty bins more frequently.

Supporting the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

One of our very first site visits was to the world-famous Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Here we engaged with their current project to make it illegal to refuse renters who have a pet. We are a nation of renters with 60% of residents in London renting rather than buying their properties. Of these rental properties, only 7% of landlords currently allow pets.

Landlords are being encouraged to take insurance against damage caused by pets rather than ban pet ownership altogether. Landlords should be reminded that renters with pets are 24% more likely to renew their lease than non-pet owners, giving them prolonged security and contiguous rental periods.

Engaging with developers on behalf of residents

We have engaged with developers at Battersea Power Station and Greystar about building a greater sense of place in Nine Elms. The issue of service charge transparency is a real priority for us.

We are also pursuing casework on behalf of residents in Nine Elms. Below are just some of the varied pieces of work we are doing. We hope to bring positive updates to you in later newsletters!

We have:

  • Met with Thames Water to discuss the discharge of odorous waste into the Thames by Riverside Court and Elm Quay Court.
  • Met with TfL and residents at Elm Quay Court about changes to lights on Nine Elms Lane which will make the road more dangerous.
  • Spoken to the Riverbus operators and The Port of London Authority (PLA) regarding speed limits on our section of the Thames.
  • Investigated the noise and odours emanating from the Cringle Dock waste and recycling centre. There is no quick fix. But we are right behind residents who have genuine claims regarding unacceptable noise 24 hours a day.
  • Represented residents to developers where their properties require urgent repairs or renovations. We cannot solve every problem or complaint. But by getting us involved you can be sure that your issue is escalated to a higher level.

And, as ever, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if there is anything you think we can be of help with locally.
