Twas the night before Christmas and all through the Bay,
the dolphins were stirring, as it is their way.
The dolphins were feeding and gliding along, through the waves to the Gulf
and back and beyond.
There would be no settling down for a long winter's nap, no visions of sugarplums
no kerchief or cap
Oh mullet, oh pinfish, oh tasty fish prey,
they hunt again hunt again each and every day
When there on the water, what should appear?
The Sarasota Dolphin Research Program
and all their camera gear.
A picture of Ginger, her calf and her mom
snap away, snap away, they follow along.
Now Randy, now Jason, now Aaron and Katie
and Sunnie and Carolyn, Allison, Shauna, Kim and Reny
With data sheets and questions
they study us all
And publish in peer-reviewed journals and books
about removing monofilament, Speedos and hooks
After 45 years of conservation research conducted this way
they've only a million and one things left to say
But as they jump to the boat and motor out of your sight
they wish a happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!
