Note: The Foreign Male Takeover of impreMedia is now complete! As we predicted in 2012 and earlier this year, this publisher of major US-based Spanish-language newspapers like La Opinion (Los Angeles) and El Diario-La Prensa (New York) is now owned and completely managed by the Argentinian company, SA Nacion. In New York, we saw the writing on the wall with the unceremonious demotion of El Diario publisher Rossana Rosado to what is essentially a no-show job as "Publisher Emeritus." Then on Thursday they announced the removal of the well-regarded Monica Lozado as CEO os the parent company. In New York, one of the most obvious impacts these changes have had is to reduce the number of Puerto Rican editorial staff to only one (remember, Puerto Ricans are still the largest Latino group in the city at close to 800,000) while an Argentinian-Spaniard clique has taken over management and already expressed strong anti-union positions. How these changes will affect their coverage of the Latino community is, at this point, anybody's guess. But they warrant that our community keep a close watch on impreMedia!

Monica Lozano to Depart as CEO of impreMedia, While Remaining Chair of the Board of Its Parent Company, US Hispanic Media, Inc.

Current COO Francisco Seghezzo Named Her Successor

Business Wire (May 29, 2014)

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ImpreMedia, the leading news and information company for U.S. Hispanics, announced today that Monica C. Lozano will depart as CEO of the company and as Publisher of La Opinin. She will remain as Chair of the Board of impreMedia's parent company, US Hispanic Media Inc. The move will enable Lozano, who has been in the leadership of impreMedia or its predecessor properties for nearly 30 years, to pursue new career interests. ImpreMedia's Chief Operating Officer, Francisco Seghezzo, will become CEO of the company effective June 1st.

"We thank Monica for her inspired leadership and are pleased that she will continue to be involved with impreMedia"

Lozano is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished Latinas in media. She began her career in 1985 with Los Angeles' influential, Spanish-language, daily newspaper La Opinin, working her way up to become publisher in 2004. In 2010, she was named CEO of impreMedia, and in that capacity she led the transformation of impreMedia from a newspaper business to a multi-media, multi-platform, content company. In 2012, impreMedia was acquired by Argentina's La Nacin through its subsidiary, US Hispanic Media Inc.

"I've spent almost 30 years with this company and want to take on new challenges," said Lozano. "I'm extremely proud of all that we've accomplished at impreMedia, but there are times in one's career when change feels right. With Francisco's capable leadership and proven track record of success, this transition comes at the right time with the right person in place. I'm eager to pursue other opportunities that are ahead. Retaining my role as Chair of US Hispanic Media Inc. while I explore those opportunities is a prospect that I relish."

"We thank Monica for her inspired leadership and are pleased that she will continue to be involved with impreMedia," said Seghezzo. "Her wisdom and experience will remain integral to our ambitious plans for expanding the reach and impact of our growing array of multi-media content platforms."

With the full commitment and support of the company, Seghezzo as COO has successfully led the charge of executing impreMedia's overall business strategy and has been instrumental in rebuilding and repositioning the company's portfolio of brands. Under his leadership, impreMedia has launched and expanded impreMedia's digital platforms, including IMPOWER!; increased distribution and circulation of various properties, including ESPN Deportes magazine; and most recently launched "Quiero Ms Ftbol" (I Want More Soccer), a glossy soccer publication that is distributed weekly on Fridays in Los Angeles within La Opinin and in New York within El Diario.
