Raise the Bar Fact Sheet Now Available in Hmong
The U.S. Department of Education's "Raise the Bar" initiative aims to provide every student with a pathway to multilingualism, while ensuring equitable access to a high-quality education for ELs. A recently published fact sheet highlighting ways to empower students on their journey to multilingualism is now available in Hmong.

Expo
The ED Games Expo is designed to provide an engaging and meaningful experience for children, students, parents and caregivers, educators, and all stakeholders interested in learning about emerging forms of education-related technologies and the government programs that support EdTech innovation and research. There is no cost to attend the ED Games Expo. The expo will occur in Washington, DC, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts REACH.

Summit
Join the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) and senior education and civic leaders from across the country at the Summer Learning Summit in Washington, DC. The Summer Learning Summit is the premier convening of leaders across all sectors working to ensure that all of America’s students, regardless of background, income, and zip code, can participate in and benefit from high-quality summer learning experiences each year. 
This workshop series includes four sessions: Experiencing Instruction Through the Eyes of a Multilingual Learner; Building Schema for MLLs; Amplifying Instruction for MLLs; and Differentiating Curriculum and Instruction for MLLs.
The 10th Annual Community-Based Heritage Language Schools Conference will be hybrid, held both on site at American University and online. Explore the conference website to see the full conference schedule, learn about the plenary speakers, and register. Registration for onsite participation covers refreshments, lunch, and a reception. In addition, onsite participants can get together for a meet and greet at a local restaurant on Friday evening. Plenary speakers include: Shuhan Wang, Ph.D., Telling the Stories of Community-Based Language Schools in the United States; Felix Kronenberg, Ph.D., Supporting Sustainable Less Commonly Taught Community-Based Language Programs; and Kristin Davin, Ph.D., Motivating Students to Continue Language Development with the Seal of Biliteracy.

The WIDA Annual Conference is the premier event for educators of pre-K–12 multilingual learners, giving educators from around the globe the opportunity to share best practices and discover innovative classroom strategies. The in-person conference is sold out, but registration for the virtual track is still available.

This conference is for passionate people looking for innovative learning strategies and resources to support families in reaching their academic and economic goals. The Hechinger Report
Dual enrollment courses offer students a chance to earn both high school and college credit at the same time. Research has shown that students who take dual enrollment classes in high school are more likely to enroll in college and to graduate than their peers of similar backgrounds. This excludes thousands of undocumented students who face a variety of barriers. According to research by the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, state policies vary drastically. Some states bar undocumented students from attending public institutions of higher education, some states block all undocumented students from accessing in-state tuition, and some provide in-state tuition only to the recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

As dual language immersion (DLI) programs become more popular nationally, ELs are at risk of losing slots to their native English-speaking peers. DLI classes in Utah are better than other states at including students who don't speak English at home. In 2008, Utah pioneered statewide funding and curriculum development for DLI classes, which led to a fast expansion of the programs. The state has made “a big push” to reach out to families of English-learning students before kindergarten so they get a chance at the DLI slots. Only one of Salt Lake's DLI programs saw the share of ELs decline from 2015 to 2020—a far more common phenomenon in other cities. 
Migration Policy Institute
Even though ELs make up one in 10 students enrolled in public K–12 education, federal funding has not kept up with their population growth. The result is a long-standing lack of equitable and adequate federal funding to support ELs. Recently Congress provided nearly $190 billion to support public schools and the most vulnerable and historically marginalized students, including ELs. These Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds have presented states and school districts with an opportunity to counter the impacts of school closures and remote learning. This brief reports findings from a project that sought to understand how school districts were investing ESSER funds to support ELs. It highlights examples of investments made to support ELs’ academic recovery, social-emotional learning, student re-engagement, and teacher retention.
Higher Ed Immigration Portal
The Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration commissioned a Migration Policy Institute-produced report that demonstrated that, in 2021, more than 5.6 million students, or 31% of all students enrolled in colleges and universities, were immigrants or the children of immigrants. The report’s findings reveal the growing proportion of first- and second-generation immigrant students in postsecondary education, the diversity of these students, and their importance for future U.S. labor growth. The report’s findings also show the direct impacts and real-life consequences that immigration policies can have on millions of students and families.

This collection of videos highlights advice from educators and administrators who have extensive experience working with English language learners (ELLs). The topics include getting to know ELLs and their families, bullying, positive body language, celebrating students’ cultures, partnering with ELL families, and many others.
Professional Learning
The English Learners Success Forum Fall Institute will provide content developers with deep knowledge of designing instructional materials that allow multilingual learners to thrive with grade-level content. Participants will walk away with:
  • knowledge around what to prioritize when designing with multilingual learners at the forefront,
  • a key task and text from your product that has been analyzed for content and language demands,
  • concrete plans for how to support students with the content and language demands, and examples of student discourse opportunities and formative assessment look-fors tied to the key text and task. 
Classroom teachers and cross-curricular teams are invited to attend this 2-day institute. In this practical training, participants will gain an understanding of how to accelerate students’ language proficiencies through effective content-area instruction. Participants will create language-focused activities intentionally designed to help move students forward on TELPAS. The training will explore specific strategies that incorporate technology into content-area classrooms, helping students prepare for the speaking portion of the TELPAS assessment.
