Creating like clockwork

Even as the season is winding down, the Listerhood is putting out intriguing, thought-provoking events!  This week, we're featuring one performance written, produced and starring a whole horde of Listers; a workshop hosted by a support org with a specific mission; and a benefit that spotlights music of the Near East.

Tonight or tomorrow, catch the Mission Opera premiere of The 13 Clocks in Santa Clarita, composer David Avshalomov's operatic adaptation of James Thurber's classic story.

Sunday, the folks at The Ageless Singer offer another fantastic workshop that addresses vocal change, with a special guest.

Also on Sunday, Ashkina's fundraiser concert for UNICEF is a unique opportunity to hear multi-national performers present an ethnically diverse array of music with a single focus:  Peace. (Would could all use more of that!)

The SoCal arts landscape never fails to amaze.  We're so lucky to have a landscape where artists can explore and inspire in ever more surprising ways.  Keep up the terrific work, everyone.  It's going to be a great summer.

Summer publication schedule

We'll put out our regular issue of Next7 next week, but then we'll publish every other week through the summer.  MAKE SURE YOUR EVENTS ARE ON THE CALENDAR!  Click here and click "Submit Event" at the top.  Make sure that link is on your media list, so you can send us all of your vocal events!

Rule of thumb for any time of year:  try to get your info submitted at least three weeks in advance, so our viewers have a chance to see it more than once, and we have a chance to draw attention to it, and perhaps even review it.  (We plan to be back to full review program activity next season!)

Mission Opera

The 13 Clocks

Lister-composer David Avshalomov invites you to the World Premiere of "The 13 Clocks," a playful magic tale, faux-horror story, and Medieval romantic comedy rolled into one, based on the perennial favorite children’s-book-for-grownups by dry American humorist James Thurber. An evil Duke, a captive Princess, a brave Prince, a forgetful Wizard, a scary Monster, a woman who weeps jewels, 13 frozen clocks, and some hungry geese--it has everything.

Come and enjoy a delightful light/dark evening with a fine cast of top local professional singers and creative video scenic touches, presented by Mission Opera at Canyon HS Performing Arts Center in Santa Clarita.  Here's the trailer:

The Ageless Singer

Working With Change

with Speech Language Pathologist Lori Sonnenberg

The Ageless Singer is focused on female singers who are experiencing hormonal vocal change. We are pleased to present a class featuring the Speech Language Pathologist, Lori Sonnenberg. Many of us experiencing vocal changes give up singing, thinking, "It's just age. I'll never sing comfortably again."

At The Ageless Singer, working with singers over the years, our refrain has been, "Where there is confusion, there is tension. Where there is understanding there is ease.”

Lori Sonnenberg specializes in working with a long list of issues that affect the singing voice. Some of the many voice issues she addresses are the result of inefficient use or misuse of the mechanism that can result when efforting our way through vocal changes.

Everybody needs a coach

Artists and orgs need help from time to time, and sometimes you just need a cache of additional experience, a sounding board and/or a brainstorming buddy.

Whether you need a single session to clarify your goals and lay out some plans, or a batch of appointments so you can stay on track with your next big project, working with a business coach can help. Book a session with Lauri online, or find a buddy or mentor who's a good fit for you. We're rooting for you, either way.
